“The Community Psychiatry Program streamlines Al Amal Psychiatry Hospital’s workflow, enhancing access, quality, and continuity of mental healthcare in the UAE. It ensures coordination, complete documentation, and timely interventions to support patients and caregivers.”
Emirates Health Services (EHS), a major healthcare provider in the UAE, has long been a leader in digital healthcare innovation. Recognizing the rising need for mental health support, EHS aimed to close care gaps, improve patient convenience, and streamline clinical processes. Their goal was to make mental healthcare more accessible and efficient for the community.
To tackle this challenge, EHS launched the Community Psychiatry Program, powered by Oracle Health Foundation EHR. This initiative brings mental healthcare directly to patients in their homes, blending remote EHR access, teleconsultations, and a centralized tracking system. These features, along with standardized clinical protocols, have created a comprehensive and convenient model of care.
The program has proven to be a tremendous success. It led to a 2.5-fold increase in patient enrollments,[1] expanding access to crucial services. Clinicians reported that they felt a reduction in documentation time, freeing them up to focus on patient care while also significantly cutting down on patient travel. The program also yielded better patient diligence, with high medication adherence of 95%[2] and crisis response episodes rising sixfold.[3] For its innovative approach and outstanding results, the program has been recognized with multiple awards, including two from the International Hospital Federation.
