Empresas Dragón gains security and savings with Oracle Cloud
The maker of fertilizer and pesticides moves to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure to lower costs and allow its teams to focus on helping farmers.
“We gained 99.95% availability and flexibility with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure while reducing our five-year investment expense by almost 30%, saving time and resources.”
业务挑战
Empresas Dragón has more than 85 years of experience creating and distributing pesticides and fertilizers to support farmers and increase food production. The Mexican company’s operating units include Agricultura Nacional (ANSA), which has more than 1,000 employees manufacturing and distributing products, and Empaques Ecológicos (Empeco), which produces containers used for liquid and powdered products.
Dragón saw an opportunity to lower costs, tap into new technology, and improve security by running its databases and applications in the cloud, and transitioning away from a physical data center.
The truth is that I feel very comfortable and supported, and I know that anytime, if anything is needed, Oracle will be there for us.
Why Empresas Dragón Chose Oracle
Empresas Dragón chose Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), including Compute services and Oracle Cloud Database Service, for its cloud transition. The company’s leadership chose OCI because of what it offered on three fronts: strengthening security, keeping Empresas Dragón on the forefront of technology, and supporting the company’s growth. Additionally, Dragón identified significant cost savings from the move, seeing Oracle as a key strategic ally that could help it scale the business while eliminating fixed asset costs.
And then there was a final element: “In terms of service I was totally convinced from the beginning with Oracle, given the support provided and the training. This was the main decisive factor for me,” says María Yadira Morales González, CIO of Empresas Dragón.
成果
By moving to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, Empresas Dragón remains at the forefront of technology while reducing its planned five-year technology investment by almost 30%.
Availability provides another benefit for Empresas Dragón, which maintained a 99.95% availability on its platform since deploying OCI in 2018. That’s a clear improvement from its on-premises data center, Morales says.
Finally, Empresas Dragón has benefited from Oracle’s customer support, which allows the company to focus its attention on Mexican farmers’ needs instead of IT maintenance. Oracle’s customer support staffers provide training and continuously build on their understanding of Dragón’s technical needs, making Oracle a strategic partner well beyond the sales process.
Migrating to Oracle’s cloud also made it much easier for Empresas Dragón to transition into remote work once the COVID-19 pandemic started. “If we hadn’t taken these actions in advance, everything would have been far more complicated," Morales says.
