Business challenges

Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd is Malaysia’s leading advanced 4G LTE services provider, connecting Malaysians and businesses for the last 25 years. With a large customer base of over 10 million, the company strongly believes in improving the lives of the people it serves and the communities they live in by connecting them to what matters most.

As a part of its digital transformation strategy, the company embarked on an enterprise resource planning (ERP) modernization project in 2017. The company wanted to improve asset utilization, embrace accurate analysis and forecasting capabilities, further automate finance operations, close books faster, and ensure compliance.

To do so, the company needed to replace its existing on-premises ERP system that was two decades old. The system was challenging to maintain and operate with disparate applications and tools. Consequently, the legacy system also did not provide a single view of all financial data and reporting.

Digi also faced other challenges, including inefficiencies due to a lack of out-of-the-box functionalities in the legacy system impacting speed to market, limited scalability, and on-demand capability. The company also needed to improve its security posture to protect sensitive data, and additionally needed to replace aging hardware and software.

Digi Telecommunications recognized that Oracle would help transform its business via improved user efficiency and real-time access to actionable insights.

Why Digi Telecommunications chose Oracle

Digi evaluated various cloud offerings from other providers and eventually chose Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) to modernize its infrastructure and migrate its legacy systems to a single platform.

The company found that Oracle offered an end-to-end, integrated suite of SaaS applications and infrastructure cloud services. Embedded with modern best-practice processes and built-in social, mobile, and analytics capabilities, Oracle’s tools would enable Digi to transform its business via improved user efficiency and real-time access to actionable insights.

Results

In addition to OCI, Digi decided to use several Oracle Cloud services, including Oracle Integration, Oracle Cloud Enterprise Performance Management (EPM), Oracle Cloud Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Oracle Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB), and Oracle Management Cloud.

Implementing Oracle Cloud ERP has helped the company modernize its transactional and reporting capabilities, deliver greater agility, and reduce internal IT maintenance spending. The Digi finance team expects to reduce the time required to complete the financial close by automating manual tasks and eliminating reliance on manual spreadsheets.

Switching to OCI and Oracle Integration has not only helped Digi reduce its on-premises footprint but has also delivered cost savings by refocusing efforts on new feature developments rather than environment maintenance. Oracle Integration transformed Digi’s disparate financial capabilities system into a single, standard, and scalable platform. It ensures seamless application integration and process automation while facilitating easy connectivity with SaaS ERP, on-premises applications, and third-party applications. Oracle Integration and Oracle Cloud ERP have given Digi the agility, user experience, and operational efficiency it needed to support growth, to onboard third-party logistics partners, and to make cost reductions related to maintaining complex legacy system customizations.
