Understanding multicloud deployments

A multicloud strategy brings the capability to distribute workloads between various computing infrastructures. This approach means competitive advantages for organizations across industries, including cost savings, reduced barriers to innovation, stronger disaster mitigation, and business continuity planning.

According to a Gartner survey, approximately 81% of respondents confirmed adopting a multicloud strategy to leverage advanced capabilities across clouds. Oracle Cloud offers a comprehensive set of multicloud solutions in the form of specialized deployments, database services, extensive monitoring capabilities, and strategic partnerships to fit your organization's needs.

The Interconnect provides an innovative value proposition for customers of Oracle and Microsoft technologies. The solution enables customers to get the “best of both worlds” by running workloads on both Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and Microsoft Azure.

Oracle’s interconnect solution with Microsoft Azure

Using Oracle Cloud and Microsoft Azure Interconnect allows customers to migrate to the cloud or to build new applications that leverage the best of OCI and Azure. Customers can quickly migrate on-premises applications, leverage a broader range of tools, and integrate as a single, unified enterprise cloud solution.

Customers are also able to move interdependent enterprise applications to the cloud, deploy custom and packaged applications across OCI and Azure, and develop cloud native applications in both cloud environments. Most importantly, customers can migrate on-premises applications to the cloud while preserving application architectures, optimizations, and interoperability.

Private, high-bandwidth cloud connectivity

Oracle FastConnect joins customers directly to their OCI virtual cloud network via dedicated, private, high-bandwidth connections. Based on their data volume, customers simply choose an appropriate port speed and pay a consistent low price for that each month. Other providers charge by amount of data moved, which can be expensive and unpredictable.

FastConnect extends customers’ on-premises environment to OCI with an Oracle partner, a colocation space, or a third-party provider. With more than fifty FastConnect partners—such as AT&T Business, BT, and Verizon—customers have guaranteed responsive global access for their cloud-based workloads.

Highly available WAN connectivity

Oracle SD-WAN provides secure, reliable connectivity to OCI with optimal bandwidth across inexpensive commodity network connections. Access to applications running on Oracle Cloud may be from any internet, including Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) or FastConnect. Oracle SD-WAN eliminates a single point of failure and aggregates multiple links to provide the best possible capacity to Oracle Cloud. With Oracle SD-WAN, enterprises can benefit from internet economics, leverage high-bandwidth and inexpensive internet connections, and safely migrate applications at their own pace to Oracle Cloud.

With Oracle SD-WAN Orchestration Cloud Service, customers can manage edge devices essential to any public cloud, including OCI, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Microsoft Azure. Operating SD-WAN on OCI ensures customers can securely access the service from any location and reduces the time and onsite technical skills required.

OCI services for hybrid cloud architecture

Learn about OCI’s offerings for on-premises cloud environments that support hybrid cloud architecture.

Understanding hybrid cloud deployments

Hybrid cloud architecture uses both a public cloud provider, such as OCI, and on-premises infrastructure to meet enterprise IT needs. This approach provides the flexibility to move some workloads to the public cloud while retaining others on-premises.

According to industry analyst IDC, “hybrid cloud has become central to successful digital transformation efforts.” This architecture is gaining importance as certain workloads cannot be moved to public cloud data centers for reasons that include data sovereignty, data residency, network latency, and infrastructure performance. Oracle Cloud@Customer brings the complete portfolio of cloud services into customer data centers, enabling hybrid cloud architectures.

Many large-scale data center users have been working through plans for cloud migration, but struggle to move gradually, keeping processing on-premises and moving applications and data in a stepwise manner to the cloud. Exadata Cloud@Customer and Oracle Dedicated Region Cloud@Customer overcome this issue by, in effect, bringing the cloud to the customer.

Research Vice President, IDC

Complete cloud capabilities within your data center

Oracle Dedicated Region is a completely managed cloud region that brings all of Oracle’s second-generation public cloud services and Oracle Fusion SaaS applications into your data center, and runs these without data sovereignty concerns. The solution enables autonomous operations that eliminate human error and maximize the security of your data.

Oracle Dedicated Region can be used with OCI’s public cloud services for hybrid cloud deployments and can be interconnected with other cloud providers. With Oracle Dedicated Region, customers increase agility and innovation by accessing new cloud services on-premises as soon as Oracle makes them available in public cloud regions—all while lowering costs with OCI’s leading price-performance. Further, you can leverage the exact same SLAs, APIs, and tools available in Oracle’s public cloud, and experience low-latency interaction with your on-premises applications and databases.

Advanced machine-learning–based database for on-premises deployments

Oracle Autonomous Database on Exadata Cloud@Customer combines all the benefits of having Oracle Exadata in your data center with the simplicity of an autonomous cloud service. It helps you meet strict data sovereignty and security requirements and eliminate many manual database and infrastructure management tasks, while supporting on-premises enterprise applications with high Exadata performance.

The solution can be used with OCI’s public cloud services for hybrid cloud deployments and can be interconnected with other cloud providers. Oracle Autonomous Database enables you to consolidate databases with autonomous operations, and to build a modern enterprise data warehouse without the challenge and cost of moving your on-premises data. IT teams benefit from machine-learning–based automation of provisioning, configuring, and tuning—reducing management cost and eliminating downtime with automated error detection, correction, and patching.

High-performance managed database for your data center

Oracle Exadata Cloud@Customer combines the performance of Oracle Exadata with the simplicity, flexibility, and affordability of a managed database service in your data centers. It’s the simplest way to move your existing Oracle databases to the cloud, providing full compatibility with your existing Exadata systems and Oracle Exadata Cloud Service.

The solution can be used with OCI’s public cloud services for hybrid cloud deployments and can be interconnected with other cloud providers. Exadata Cloud@Customer enables customers to meet data sovereignty and low-latency requirements in existing data center resources while achieving higher database consolidation and scaling that isn’t possible on-premises.

Cloud computing and storage services at the edge

Oracle Roving Edge Infrastructure accelerates deployment of cloud workloads outside the data center. Ruggedized Oracle Roving Edge Devices (Oracle REDs) deliver cloud computing and storage services at the edge of networks and in disconnected locations, allowing faster processing close to the data source and enabling faster insights into the data.

Existing Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) virtual machines (VMs) and object storage can be synchronized to Oracle Roving Edge devices using the same portal and tenancy tooling as our public regions. Roving Edge Devices can be used for fast data collection and processing in the field, application deployment to remote facilities, development/test in cloud and deployment to edge, and artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) at the edge.
