Identifying an inconsistent backup is key to uncovering malware or ransomware attacks. Recovery Service checks all incoming backups for Oracle block correctness, allowing administers to immediately quarantine systems and conduct further investigations.
Recovery Service has a 14-day minimum recovery that can be extended to 95 days. Backups cannot be arbitrarily deleted, and if a protected database is deleted, its backups will be retained for a minimum of 72 hours, providing a buffer period that allows the database to be recovered in the event of accidental deletion.
Recovery Service is logically and physically separated from the OCI Oracle Database services it protects, with access to it controlled via strict separation of duties between database administrator (DBA) and recovery service administrator roles. Users with DBA privileges for a protected database may initiate backup and recovery operations while the Recovery Service administrator manages all backup and recovery policies, monitors backup usage, recovery status, and alerts.
