NHS Shared Business Services (NHS SBS) announced today that it has selected Oracle Fusion Cloud Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) to help build an Integrated Single Financial Environment (ISFE) for NHS England. Oracle Cloud ERP will enable NHS England and 42 Integrated Care Boards in the UK to standardise all financial processes on a single cloud-based platform to reduce costs and improve controls.

Created in 2004 through a joint venture between the Department of Health and Social Care and Sopra Steria, NHS SBS delivers corporate services across finance and accounting, digital, procurement and workforce services to NHS employees, patients, and suppliers. Depended on by millions of NHS staff and patients, NHS SBS processes around £250 billion each year. After a thorough review, NHS SBS selected Oracle Cloud ERP to simplify finance processes and efficiently scale services.

“As the country’s leading provider of corporate services to the NHS, we are uniquely equipped to continue providing the Integrated Single Financial Environment to our evolving healthcare system,” said Erika Bannerman, managing director of NHS SBS. “Moving towards a unified service and platform for NHS trusts and commissioners is a huge step forward in achieving the vision we share with NHS England of ‘one NHS finance system’. The new service is not just a continuation of what came before. At its heart is a single, scalable, integrated, cloud-based finance solution, which is designed by the NHS – for the NHS.”

With Oracle Cloud ERP, NHS SBS will automate financial processes to increase operational efficiency, improve decision-making, and more efficiently manage resources. In addition, Oracle’s quarterly update cycle will give NHS SBS access to continuous innovation as new features are added to the system every 90 days, without operational disruption or downtime.

“With a strong track record for providing market-leading cloud solutions and extensive experience of working with the NHS and the wider the healthcare sector, Oracle is well-positioned to work with NHS SBS to help trusts have better insights and ultimately deliver better healthcare,” said Siobhan Wilson, senior vice president, Oracle EMEA Applications, and country manager, Oracle UK. “With Oracle Cloud ERP, NHS SBS will be able to provide trusts with a continuous stream of innovation and advanced automation capabilities so NHS trusts can drive efficiency and focus on the most important task at hand – providing the highest standard of care for patients.”
