As a result of its acquisition of Hyperion, Oracle has also acquired Decisioneering, makers of Crystal Ball software.
A year ago, Oracle significantly reoriented its business intelligence product suite, shifting the focus from offering a solution that works for Oracle-only environments towards offering a best-of-breed business intelligence product family that will work with heterogeneous information sources, both Oracle and non-Oracle. We introduced a new product family called Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition. This integrated suite includes business intelligence tools, Oracle Business Intelligence Applications, and Oracle Data Integrator. The acquisition of Hyperion extends our business intelligence product strategy. The addition of Crystal Ball increases our reach with new desktop predictive modeling capabilities.
Crystal Ball software is used by over 4,000 customers worldwide, including 85% of the Fortune 500. Customers from a broad range of industries, such as aerospace, financial services, manufacturing, oil and gas, pharmaceutical and utilities, are increasingly using performance management, business intelligence and predictive modeling together to improve the strategic decision-making process.
Crystal Ball will add complementary products to Oracle's business intelligence offerings, including a leading spreadsheet-based software suite for predictive modeling, forecasting, simulation and optimization. All three editions of Crystal Ball software continue to be sold through the usual Crystal Ball sales channel.
