Oracle Enterprise Manager, besides being the best suite of management products for Oracle technologies, also provides a comprehensive solution for management of heterogeneous data centers via its rich collection of extensions known as Plug-ins and Connectors. The Self Update mechanism in Enterprise Manager 12c allows customers to download/import and deploy extensions built by Oracle, our numerous partners, and customers themselves. These extensions are built upon the same management framework as used for Oracle products, and thus enjoy the same level of stability and richness as the Oracle products.

Introduction

To develop a plug-in, start with the EM extensibility books and then go through the plug-in sample and the plug-in development Kit . In order to develop a connector, look at the Connectors integration guide. You may post your extensibility questions and share tips and tricks with other plug-in and connector developers in the Oracle Enterprise Manager discussion forum.

In addition to Plug-ins and Connectors, Oracle Enterprise Manager provides various avenues for extending the capabilities of the product. Metric Extensions allow customers to easily leverage custom scripts to collect user defined monitoring metrics, set thresholds, and enable alerting and notifications like any other Oracle provided metric. Custom Configuration Specifications allow customers to collect and parse contents of any file, command output, or result of a sql query. This custom configuration data can be used for comparison, search, and reporting. The User Defined Deployment Procedures (UDDP) allow customers to automate many of their custom processes like provisioning and patching of homegrown applications. For cloud orchestration, customers can package their custom application into Virtual Assemblies and publish the customized assemblies to Software Library.

1. Enterprise Manager 12c does not support plug-ins from prior releases. Only plug-ins packaged for Enterprise Manager 12c can be deployed to the Oracle Management Server (OMS) and Agents.
2. All Oracle built plug-ins and connectors for Enterprise Manager 12c are available via the Self Update console. Self Update (Demo|Documentation) is the recommended way to download all updates for Enterprise Manager 12c.
