Oracle Warehouse Builder

Oracle Warehouse Builder (OWB) is Oracle's comprehensive tool for ETL (extract, transform and load), relational and dimensional modeling, data quality, data auditing, and full lifecycle management of data and metadata. OWB powers ETL and data quality integrated with the Oracle Database.

OWB Installation and Licensing

Oracle Database 11gR1 includes a complete installation of Warehouse Builder 11gR1. For Database 10gR2 implementations, you can install the standalone version for either OWB 10.2 or OWB 11.1. All OWB functionality is available and ready to use in each installation. However, some functionality is licensed with the Oracle Database whilst other functionality requires addtional licensing.

  • in-Database ETL: The Oracle Database license includes the subset of Warehouse Builder functionality that enables you to build a basic Oracle data warehouse. This includes the graphical user interface for designing ETL mappings and then running mappings based on the completion of another mapping or external event. It also includes a complete scripting language and basic data cleansing functionality for name and address cleansing and fuzzy matching and merging of data.
  • Enterprise ETL: A separate license is available for advanced ETL needs such as interactive lineage and impact analysis, extensible metadata, working in an Oracle RAC environment, and implementing slowly changing dimensions types 2 and 3. For licensing details, please see Oracle Data Integrator Enterprise Edition (ODI EE) in Fusion Middleware Licensing Information. ODI EE is a pricing bundle including ODI and OWB Enterprise ETL and is an important part of a unified strategy for data integration and ETL tools at Oracle.
  • Data quality: Data quality capabilities of OWB are licensed as a separate option to the Oracle Database. This option enables you to profile any data that OWB can connect to without the need to stage the data. That is, OWB can profile files, tables, and ERP systems such as SAP R/3 without moving the data first. It also includes anomaly detection, generated correction mappings, data cleansing, and data auditing. See the Data Profiling and Quality Option in Database Licensing Information.
  • Accessing ERP applications: Separate licenses are available for extracting data from SAP R/3, Siebel, PeopleSoft, and eBusiness Suite. For licensing details, please see Oracle Warehouse Builder Adapters in Fusion Middleware Licensing Information.
