NHS Shared Business Services (NHS SBS), a leading provider of corporate services across the health service, is using Oracle Fusion Cloud Applications to support its mission to help the NHS save money, enhance quality, and deliver better patient care. With Oracle Fusion Applications, NHS SBS has standardised processes within an AI-powered finance suite to help increase efficiency, improve controls, expand insights, and enhance decision-making for health workers across England.

Created in 2004 through a public and private joint venture with Sopra Steria, NHS SBS delivers corporate services - in finance and accounting, procurement, workforce and digital – to support NHS employees, patients, and suppliers.

After a decade of delivering the original finance service, NHS SBS harnessed its unique knowledge to design and build the new finance and procurement platform for the NHS – one of the country’s most critical public service infrastructures – leveraging Oracle Fusion Applications to help enhance financial operations.

With Oracle Fusion Applications, NHS SBS reports that it has been able to standardise and automate financial operations to process 7.1 million invoices, recover £7.4 billion in debt, and handle up to £355 billion in NHS transactions per year. Oracle Fusion Cloud Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) creates the conditions for the NHS to increase productivity, reduce costs, and improve controls, while Oracle Fusion Cloud Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) helps organisations to get better insights to enable more detailed operational planning and forecasting, and improve decision-making.

In addition, migrating critical IT systems to Oracle Exadata Database Service on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) has helped NHS SBS staff work more efficiently, with automated data integrations that have accelerated supplier payments and increased payment accuracy. By leveraging the OCI data platform, NHS SBS reports that it has recognised more than half a million pounds in cost savings while providing the basis for a stronger, more cohesive finance service for the NHS.
