Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Search Service with OpenSearch is an insight engine offered as an Oracle managed service. Without any downtime, Oracle automates patching, updating, upgrading, backing up, and resizing the service. Customers can store, search, and analyze large volumes of data quickly and see results in near real time.
OCI Search Service combines proven OpenSearch technology with the flexibility of OCI. Oracle contributes to two major open source projects that are used for OCI Search Service—OpenSearch and OpenSearch Dashboards (OpenDashboards)1.
OCI Search Service with OpenSearch takes a proven open source search solution and builds a management layer onto it. Simply point Elasticsearch-based APIs to an OCI Search Service endpoint to get up and running quickly.
OCI is responsible for administrative tasks, including deployment, provisioning, patching and resizing (scaling up or out). OCI Search Service enables operators to focus on data, not maintenance.
Administrators that use OCI Search Service with OpenSearch benefit from automated backups of their clusters. Data protection provided by backups to Object Storage is secured in flight and at rest.
OCI Search Service with OpenSearch offers a pool of resources based on OCI flexible shapes. All customers get fine-grained control of cores, memory, and storage for their use cases.
OpenSearch Dashboards (OpenDashboards) is a powerful visualization tool designed to easily create and deploy dashboards that surface critical data and powerful insights from OCI Search Service.
OCI Search Service with OpenSearch is fully integrated with OCI Identity and Access Management and inherits OCI's simple, integrated, and prescriptive security philosophy. Users can benefit from role-based access controls and authorization policies.
All data is encrypted at rest, and backups are encrypted in flight. OCI Search Service is compliant with the Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) out of the box.
OCI Search Service automates deployment and reduces administrative overhead.
Migrating from an existing OpenSearch deployment—whether self-managed or hosted—is quick. Engineers just need to restore from a working backup configuration or point APIs to an OpenSearch endpoint.
Centralized logging across disparate datasources provides near real-time search and data visualizations to rapidly highlight application and infrastructure issues.
Engineers can build faster and more accurate searches across datasets of any size.
OCI Search Service has a simple pricing structure and predictable costs for scaling up. For up to two data nodes, Oracle only charges for provisioned infrastructure and waives management fees. With high-availability clusters (three or more data nodes), Oracle charges for provisioned infrastructure and management.
