Backup, Recovery and Disaster Recovery services and tools

Key cloud services help you protect your data and applications

Regions, Fault Domains, and Availability Domains

Regions: Oracle Cloud is available globally from 30 cloud regions, and Oracle is rapidly building more. Our goal is to offer proximity, meet data sovereignty requirements, and provide in-country disaster recovery capabilities in every country. Oracle’s unique dual-region cloud strategy enables customers to deploy resilient applications in multiple geographically separated locations—without having sensitive data leave the country.

Fault Domains: OCI’s physical and virtual network design maximizes performance and security. Oracle’s cloud regions each contain at least three fault domains, which are groupings of hardware that form logical data centers for high availability and resilience to hardware and network failures.

Availability Domains: A region is composed of one or more availability domains connected to each other by a low latency, high bandwidth network. Availability domains are isolated from each other, fault tolerant, and unlikely to fail simultaneously.

Networking Connectivity and Redundancy

IPSec VPN: Your data centers can connect to cloud networks over an IPSec VPN. The cloud network has a dynamic routing gateway (DRG) that has multiple VPN endpoints so that each IPSec VPN connection consists of multiple redundant IPSec tunnels that use static routes to route traffic.

FastConnect: Your data center can either connect directly to OCI routers in provider points-of-presence (POPs) or use one of Oracle’s many partners to connect from POPs around the world to their OCI networking resources. Oracle provides features that allow you to build fault-tolerant connections, including multiple POPs per region and multiple FastConnect routers per POP.

Load Balancing: A load balancer improves resource utilization, facilitates scaling, and helps ensure high availability. You can configure multiple load balancing policies and application-specific health checks to ensure that the load balancer directs traffic only to healthy instances.

High Availability Storage

Object Storage: With OCI Object Storage, stored objects are automatically replicated across fault domains or across availability domains. Customers can combine replication with lifecycle management policies to automatically populate, archive, and delete objects.

Block Storage: Use OCI Block Volume policy-based backups to perform automatic, scheduled backups and retain them based on a backup policy. Consistently backing up your data allows you to adhere to your data compliance and regulatory requirements.

File Storage: OCI File Storage uses the industry-standard Network File System (NFS) file access protocol and can be accessed concurrently by thousands of Compute instances. File Storage can provide high-performance and resilient data protection for your applications. Within an availability domain, File Storage uses synchronous replication and high availability failover to keep your data safe and available.

Databases, High Availability and Backup/Recovery

Exadata: Exadata Database Cloud Service allows you to leverage the power of Exadata within the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. The dedicated infrastructure is isolated from other users, allowing database teams to improve security, performance, and uptime for customer databases. You can configure automatic backups, optimize for different workloads, and scale up the system to meet increased demands. Exadata DB systems provide built-in high availability capabilities. All the existing best practices with your on-premises Exadata DB systems are applicable.

2-Node RAC DB Systems: Oracle Cloud Infrastructure offers 2-node RAC DB Systems on virtual machine Compute instances. 2-node RAC DB systems provide built-in high availability capabilities for your solutions that require high availability. You can configure the Database service to automatically back up to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Object Storage.

Data Guard: Data Guard and Active Data Guard provide disaster recovery for databases with recovery time objectives that cannot be met by restoring from backup. Customers use these solutions to deploy one or more synchronized replicas of a production database in physically separate locations (including hybrid on-premises-to-OCI scenarios) to provide high availability, comprehensive data protection, and disaster recovery for mission-critical data.

Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN): Oracle Recovery Manager provides a comprehensive foundation for efficiently backing up, recovering, and migrating Oracle Database. It provides a common interface for tasks, optimizes performance and space consumption while taking care of underlying database procedures, offers management features like retention policy and backup history, and integrates with a range of tools.

Siebel

Siebel CRM is a world-class customer relationship management solution for organizations of every size and across every region and industry. Siebel CRM can be moved to OCI for improved efficiency, cost savings, and performance gains compared to on-premises deployments or other clouds.

Deploying Siebel on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure provides access to high-performance compute, Oracle RAC, and Exadata, ensuring the highest levels of performance and greatest availability for CRM applications. Siebel CRM customers can migrate Siebel 18.x/19.x/20x and later to OCI, eliminating cumbersome on-premises maintenance and procurement of new hardware.
