Solaris 10 Upgrade Resources for System Administrators

If you're already running an earlier version of the Solaris Operating System (OS), upgrading to the Solaris 10 OS can help simplify administrative tasks, improve efficiency, and lower costs. There are a number of resources available to guide decision-making during typical phases of an upgrade process.

To access relevant resources, click one of the following upgrade phases:

  • Phase 1 -- Analysis: Why Upgrade?
    This page lists resources that explain the potential value of a Solaris 10 OS upgrade, examining the pros and cons of an upgrade. It highlights resources that discuss "need-to-know" Solaris 10 OS features for system administrators and points to feature comparisons for Solaris 8, 9, and 10 OS releases.
  • Phase 2 -- Assessment/Planning.
    This page provides resources to help you prepare for a Solaris 10 OS upgrade and determine an optimal upgrade strategy. If your applications aren't available yet on the Solaris 10 OS, this page lists resources that explain how to take an incremental approach on SPARC platforms using Solaris 8 or 9 Containers on the Solaris 10 release. This page also provides links to available training resources and consulting services.
  • Phase 3 -- Implementation and Test.
    This page identifies general installation resources, including available documentation, tools, and technologies commonly deployed in the upgrade process. It includes links for downloading the Solaris 10 release as well as the software needed to support Solaris 8 or Solaris 9 Containers on the Solaris 10 OS.
  • Phase 4 -- Post-Upgrade.
