A vertically integrated homebuilder outgrows fragmented finance and planning

Clayton is a leading builder of modern manufactured housing in the United States. The company has a mission to make homeownership more attainable for individuals and families nationwide.

Founded in 1956, Clayton has grown into a vertically integrated enterprise spanning home building, component manufacturing, retail sales, and financing. It operates more than 60 home building and manufacturing facilities and over 380 retail locations across the country.

As Clayton expanded, financial data, planning, and reporting were spread across legacy systems and homegrown applications. That led to multiple definitions of data, manual reconciliations, and time-consuming close and reporting cycles.

Clayton wanted a unified platform to standardize finance processes, connect planning to execution, and evolve as the business changed.

Standardizing finance, planning, and supply chain on one cloud platform

Clayton selected Oracle Fusion Cloud Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), including solutions for finance and accounting, and supply chain management.

The homebuilder took a finance-first approach, implementing Oracle’s finance and accounting solutions together as the foundation of a multi-year transformation. These solutions consolidated subledger data into a single chart of accounts and general ledger, driving a single system for enterprise planning, budgeting, reporting, and financial close.

Clayton also introduced connected planning that links detailed financial data from ERP with forward-looking plans across business units. Automation reduced manual effort, freeing finance teams to focus more on analysis and decision-making.

Expanding connected planning and using embedded AI

With the finance foundation in place, Clayton expanded to Oracle Cloud Supply Chain and Manufacturing to align planning with execution. It supports supply and demand planning, manufacturing, procurement, and logistics on the same integrated platform.

Embedded AI capabilities across Oracle Fusion Cloud Applications help automate routine processes, surface insights, and improve the speed and accuracy of planning and analysis.

Clayton describes this unified cloud foundation as supporting continuous transformation through quarterly updates, along with embedded AI and automation.
