Metropolitan Life moves to cloud with Oracle Insurance Policy Administration
Implementing OIPA helps South African insurer decommission mainframe operations to improve sales and service processes.
“OIPA gave us a foundation we can continue to build on – we’re modern, API-enabled and ready to innovate further.”
Metropolitan Life was founded in 1898 to help South African communities secure their futures. Some 125 years later, Metropolitan determined that its on-premises systems resulted in expensive operations, manual processes, and siloed data sources. They initiated a move to the cloud to compete more effectively in South Africa’s fast-evolving, competitive market. After a lengthy search process, Metropolitan chose Oracle Insurance Policy Administration (OIPA) for its value as a cloud-based, API-rich platform targeting savings, investment, and annuity products. The implementation and data migration, conducted with partner Falcorp, spanned three years and involved over 100 people collaborating across multiple regions to deliver products on OIPA’s platform, thereby unlocking new digital capabilities for straight through sales and service processing. Falcorp also built an internal OIPA support team, which can be scaled to meet varying business demands without carrying large IT overhead costs.
