SoundHound brings voice and conversational AI solutions to products and services worldwide using OCI AI infrastructure
The voice AI platform expands globally across industries, handling more than 1 billion queries a month.
“The performance improvements that we’ve seen using OCI AI infrastructure have allowed SoundHound to be nimble and focused in a very active and fast-moving AI space. We moved into new verticals this past year, including the restaurant, healthcare, and financial services industries.”
SoundHound AI’s solutions allow businesses to deliver omnichannel, multilingual conversational experiences for their customers via AI agents. As the company anticipated aggressive revenue growth, it needed a scalable cloud infrastructure powerful enough to run complex AI models without downtime. In 2021, the company migrated its hybrid on-premises and cloud technology platform to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), becoming an early adopter of OCI AI infrastructure. The company experienced a 50% to 60% performance boost and a 50% cost reduction while doubling its usage in its first six months on OCI. With Oracle as its AI infrastructure partner, SoundHound developed new capabilities, expanded into more industries, and grew globally.
When I talk with customers about our OCI environment, I’m proud to say SoundHound chose Oracle as a partner.
Why SoundHound AI chose Oracle
SoundHound’s AI platform can understand the complexity of speech, similar to how a human brain does, letting businesses automate natural, conversational interactions with customers using AI agents—whether they’re ordering a pizza, making an appointment, or completing a banking transaction. As the company grew rapidly, it needed an infrastructure that could deliver sufficient capabilities, performance, and on-demand capacity.
The company migrated to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure in 2021 to support its AI solutions because OCI was not only reliable, scalable, and cost-effective, but it could also support SoundHound’s global expansion goals.
Results
The company, founded in 2005, had US$21 million in annual revenue in 2021 when it moved to OCI. It anticipates revenue will be in the range of US$160 million to US$178 million for the full year 2025. OCI costs about half what SoundHound paid for its previous platform, and OCI provided the scalability the company needed to grow quickly. In SoundHound’s first year on OCI, it went from about 100 million queries in the first month to more than 1 billion by the year’s end. OCI AI infrastructure also delivered the speed and performance the company needed to constantly raise the accuracy of its voice AI by improving its ability to recognize variations in inflection, dialect, and grammar. OCI’s global network of public cloud regions, low latency, and readily available GPUs helped the company expand rapidly into new regions and develop its AI platform for more industries. OCI’s reputation for high availability and scalability gives SoundHound’s potential customers confidence.
About the customer
SoundHound’s voice and conversational AI solutions use proprietary speech recognition and natural language technologies developed by a group of Stanford graduates who shared the vision that people should interact with technology the same way they do with each other—by speaking.
