XTPG transforms its IT team from cost center to revenue generator with OCI

The software developer increases efficiency and optimizes costs by migrating its on-premises IT environment to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).

The team is the same size today as it was 5 years ago, but the environment is 15 times more complex. In the past, the IT team was considered to be only a cost center, while today it costs approximately 20% of what it generates in revenue. OCI helped us create this disruptive change.
Marcelo MotaGeneral Director, XTPG

Founded in 1983 in France, XTPG develops treasury and financial management software for medium to large businesses. Today, the company has 5,000 customers around the world, who provide solutions that help organizations manage cash, liquidity, and risk operations in the most diverse sectors.

To serve not only large but also medium-size companies, XTPG needed to offer robust treasury solutions at attractive prices to clients with smaller budgets. In 2013, when most corporations began studying cloud migration, XTPG operated in a costly, on-premises structure that required ongoing spending on hardware and software management, physical space, electricity, and backup maintenance. The physical environment, with its low flexibility and high demand for human resources, hindered scalability and stalled the growth of operations. After exploring new solutions available in the market, the company understood that a migration to the cloud would be financially viable and add value to the business.

Why XTPG chose Oracle

XTPG took into account the partnership it already had with Oracle from using Oracle Database, which was considered the ideal database to handle demanding and high-performance workloads. When XTPG first assessed which cloud services would offer the best ROI of the migration process, XTPG selected workloads that would better integrate with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).

The company's lab demonstrated that OCI would provide a smooth migration and better ROI in the short run, making Oracle was the obvious choice. The partnership with Oracle evolved over the years until XTPG reached the universal cloud credits model, which allowed the company to achieve maximum efficiency by using resources only on demand.

Results

The implementation of OCI allowed XTPG to manage its software without increase IT costs. Its IT department is the same size it was five years ago, but the IT environment is 15X more complex. In practice, this means that the IT team, once considered a cost center for XTPG, has become a revenue generator with a high margin. The team today costs only 20% of all the revenues it brings in

By migrating its workloads to OCI, XTPG has seen additional benefits. When the treasury software is implemented for customers, there is a preliminary phase that covers the entire infrastructure, from computing to security and environment configuration. This set of tasks previously took about five days to complete in the on-premises model. Now with OCI, these tasks are completed in only one day—an 80% efficiency gain compared to the previous scenario. At the same time, a standard project, which required two or three dedicated professionals, is now carried out by just one person—a 66% efficiency gain.

The use of OCI also brought greater stability to the products XTPG offers. The availability rate of the company's cloud services reaches 100% during business hours, even in periods of high demand, and 99.9% throughout the day. This translates into greater user satisfaction.

In qualitative terms, the biggest advance after the adoption of Oracle Cloud was security. Due to regulatory requirements, XTPG must undergo an intense audit process to ensure it meets security standards. With OCI, the company is 100% compliant with the criteria for monitoring, threat detection, and recovery in case of failures.

With a more stable and secure cloud framework, XTPG leaders have more time to think about new product development. At the moment, the company is focusing on big data projects, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. With OCI, company leaders expect new solutions to be implemented in significantly less time.
