When I interviewed Michelle Skamene last month, I noticed that she called herself an APEX developer. That’s interesting, because it demonstrates the evolution of the tool from one professional user base (Oracle Database customers) to another (developers). And every company wants developers these days.
Why? Because developers are more than just customers. Customer implies a transactional relationship. Developers are makers who continually co-create with a vendor’s tools and platforms. If you’re lucky enough to have a portfolio of successful products like Oracle does, I think it’s wise to listen to the community and pick up on the language they use to describe themselves and what they’re building. That’s my approach, anyway.
