| OpenELA Announces kernel-lts Project in Support of Linux Kernel 4.14 |

OpenELA is committed to providing a platform for developers to collaborate on the maintenance of the 4.14 Linux kernel after community support ended in January.
The OpenELA kernel-lts project is a repository that contains a continuation of long-term maintenance kernel releases hosted on kernel.org. This continuation follows all the upstream stable rules, does not target specific hardware, vendors, or users, and the patches are primarily selected from ongoing upstream stable kernels.
OpenELA is a trade association of open source enterprise Linux distribution developers originally founded by CIQ, Oracle, and SUSE. OpenELA’s mission is to provide a secure, transparent, and reliable enterprise Linux source that is globally available to all as a buildable base.
Customers can be reassured that the software/ecosystem for OpenELA is the same as ecosystems for SUSE Liberty Linux, Oracle Linux, and Rocky Linux, i.e. bug-for-bug compatible. Check out the OpenELA FAQ.

Oracle Linux with the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel (UEK) Release 5 introduced NVMe over Fabrics support with Fibre Channel transport. In UEK R6, NVMe over Fabrics for TCP transport was introduced. Boot from SAN has been supported with Fabrics protocol for a few decades now, notably for iSCSI and Fibre channel. This blog explores the work that is ongoing to bring the same Boot from SAN capability for NVMe over Fabrics protocol as well. |
