Dear Oracle on OpenVMS Customers,
This is a product news update for the Oracle Rdb product family. In this Newsletter, we have information on Oracle Rdb 7.3, the latest Oracle Rdb Developer Tools for Visual Studio release, news on updated product documentation and information on upcoming Oracle Rdb speaking events.
Oracle Rdb 7.3 Entering Sustaining Support
At the end of September, Extended Support for Oracle Rdb 7.3 will come to an end and support will transition to Sustaining Support. This means that there will be no further patches or new features for 7.3 past the end of September. Oracle Support, however, will continue to assist customers with product questions and to find work arounds to any problems encountered under the Sustaining phase. To continue to receive patch support for Oracle Rdb, customers will need to upgrade to Oracle Rdb 7.4 which is in Premier Support. Oracle Rdb 7.4 first shipped in August of 2020. The latest version is 7.4.1.2 and there is a 7.4.1.3 release under development.
In preparation for the end of patch support for Oracle Rdb 7.3 we shipped version 7.3.4.0 in July. This brought the 7.3 stream up to date with nearly 3 years of bug fixes since the previous Oracle Rdb 7.3 release (7.3.3.2) that shipped back in November 2019.
Oracle Rdb 7.3.4.0
Oracle Rdb 7.3.4.0 shipped on July 19, 2023. You can download the kit from My Oracle Support (MOS) under patch numbers 35586554 for Itanium and 35586577 for Alpha.
Oracle Rdb 7.3.4.0 is the terminal Oracle Rdb 7.3 release which was first released in 2011. Oracle highly recommends that all customers still running Oracle Rdb 7.3 upgrade to this version to get the final set of enhancements and bug fixes that will be available in the 7.3 stream. If you require a bug fix not available in this release after the end of September, Oracle Support will ask you to first upgrade to Oracle Rdb 7.4.
A partial list of the enhancements in this release includes:
• New Summary_Only Qualifier to RMU Dump Audit Command • New Option=GENERATED Added to RMU Extract Command
A partial list of bugs fixed includes:
• Long Running Delete Does Not Advance After-Image Journal Checkpoint • Long Running Query Blocks Other Queries • Unexpected Bugcheck When Using DROP STORAGE AREA . . .
