About Vanderbilt University
Founded in 1873, Vanderbilt University is a private research university in Nashville, Tennessee. It enrolls more than 13,000 students and offers undergraduate and graduate programs.
Business problem: Fragmented HR systems and manual work slowed progress
During a period of major change, Vanderbilt needed a centralized HR system that could keep pace and give departments and employees more autonomy across its 11 schools and colleges.
The university's previous environment included an Oracle PeopleSoft implementation from the 1990s surrounded by more than 20 custom web applications, making processes slow and fragmented.
Solution and results: Unify HR, payroll, and talent data in Oracle Fusion Cloud
Vanderbilt replaced its 30-year-old HR systems with Oracle Fusion Cloud Human Capital Management (HCM) and brought HR foundation, payroll, and talent data onto a single platform. Employees and managers now have one-stop access to payroll, expenses, training, and job opportunities.
Teams manage more than 102,000 transactions annually with less effort. Using the Oracle Cloud HCM platform and AI, Vanderbilt and its recruiting services provider reduced candidate screenings from 40 to 25 minutes, saving more than 300 work hours in a single month.
To support growth and internal mobility, Vanderbilt partnered with Mercer to develop a skills-based job architecture. The skills infrastructure powers Vanderbilt’s talent marketplace, driven by Oracle Grow. About 86% of the university’s staff participate in the program.
