Business challenges

Veritas Technologies, a leader in multicloud data management, delivers resilience against cyberattacks by helping to ensure data protection, recoverability, and compliance for more than 80,000 customers.

To continuously deliver reliability at scale, Veritas is undergoing a massive transformation to shift to the cloud to improve agility, flexibility, and cost efficiency, including adopting multiple public clouds. However, multicloud comes with the added complexity of managing and analyzing data with different policies and security needs, as well as a lack of sufficient visibility into where data resides and the ability to move it to, from, and between clouds at will.

Veritas ingests data from numerous sources and operates complex data transformation pipelines across clouds. Any delays in data processing severely impacts the performance of its core analytics platforms, which manage more than 2 petabytes of data, with the majority of the structured data on Oracle databases.

Managing large amounts of data at this scale presented unique challenges for Veritas, which also needed to stay agile to innovate constantly and provide its customers with a seamless experience.

OCI enables Veritas to transform data management for an autonomous, multicloud future to deliver unmatched versatility, performance, and cost savings.

Why Veritas chose Oracle

With a multicloud strategy, Veritas could keep some of its data on-premises while also taking advantage of the unique capabilities of Oracle Exadata Database Service on OCI and analytics. The company selected Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) because of the flexibility it introduced, allowing Veritas to easily shift workloads among clouds, while driving performance, availability, resilience, and innovation.

Oracle Database Service for Azure also simplified the use of multicloud environments for data analytics. It addressed network latency and performance concerns through automation and integration between OCI and Azure. Veritas could seamlessly integrate OCI and Azure into its multicloud strategy.

Oracle Advanced Customer Services facilitated the migration to OCI and helped Veritas gain the speed, flexibility, and security features required.

Veritas achieved 20X database performance improvement on OCI, enabling real-time analytics on Azure.

Results

After adopting Oracle Database Service for Azure, Veritas was able to run split-stack workloads to further simplify its multicloud environment. Veritas didn’t have to refactor its existing Oracle data warehouse by migrating to OCI. The company was able to ingest data directly from the Exadata transactional system into Azure, resulting in 20X higher performance compared to the previous architecture. Additionally, this saved significant time and resources and allowed data analytics operations to remain efficient.

As a result, Veritas modernized its data estate operations with real-time data analysis. The faster delivery of business insights helped company leaders make more informed and timely decisions.
