CHS improves supply visibility across 70 hospitals with Oracle Fusion Cloud
US health system connected supply planning and execution to improve recall response and align replenishment to local demand.

“We really transformed the way we’re doing business. We’re seeing a lot more detail around our supply chain and inventory management.”
The challenge: Disconnected supply systems slowed decisions and recall response
Community Health Systems (CHS) ran dozens of hospitals and clinics on disconnected supply chain applications and manual workflows. That made it difficult to see inventory status in real time across distribution centers, hospital storerooms, and point-of-use locations.
CHS also had about a half-dozen supply chain applications, a general ledger it had “outgrown,” and an underutilized human resources system. With different systems, regional workflows, and manual processes, it was harder to align replenishment to demand and respond quickly to recalls or expirations. Stockouts, excess safety stock, and slow recall response increased risk and cost.

The solution: A connected supply chain on Oracle Fusion Cloud Applications
CHS adopted Oracle Fusion Cloud Applications Suite to support a shared services model with standardized data and processes across 70 hospitals. CHS connected business functions and departments with Oracle Fusion Finance and Accounting, Oracle Fusion Cloud Supply Chain and Manufacturing, and Oracle Fusion Cloud Human Resources which are integrated by design.
With Oracle Fusion Cloud Supply Chain and Manufacturing, CHS established a single platform that connects sourcing, supplier management, inventory, planning, and distribution. Hospital, clinic, and distribution center teams can plan, procure, store, and deliver using shared data and standardized processes.
CHS also used capabilities including Oracle Fusion Cloud Supply Chain’s inventory management, wave planning, task interleaving, and mobile point-of-use capture to support distribution center throughput and help improve charge accuracy and replenishment.
The results: Better inventory visibility and planning, with expected savings
With Oracle Fusion Cloud Supply Chain Execution, CHS now has visibility from distribution centers to point of care. Planning and replenishment are aligned to local demand, and lot and serial plus UDI traceability features support faster, more targeted recalls.
CHS expects $20–40 million in annual savings by redesigning workflows and gaining deeper business insights, while improving resilience and care delivery. Oracle Cloud quarterly updates help CHS stay current with AI-driven planning, supplier risk insights, and analytics—without disrupting operations.
The broader meaning: Supporting clinicians and patient safety
By changing how it manages supply chain operations with Oracle, CHS reduced friction tied to supplies, supported patient safety, and positioned the organization for growth across its communities.
“We really transformed the way we’re doing business as an organization, primarily the standardization and the simplification of our data,” said Meurer. “We’re seeing a lot more detail around our supply chain and inventory management, particularly around what kind of products we’re ordering within our organization.”
