Biofy Technologies, a tech company tackling the growing challenges of antibiotic resistance, is leveraging Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) to help it identify bacterial infections and determine resistance profiles. With its industry-leading generative AI capabilities and full-suite of managed open-source cloud services, OCI has helped Biofy reduce the time to diagnose antibiotic resistance from five days to less than four hours and gained 50 percent better performance at up to half the cost of other cloud providers.

New antibiotic resistance mechanisms are spreading globally and threatening the ability to treat common infectious diseases. DNA sequencing is the most common and accurate method to identify the specific bacteria present in a sample, but it can be time-consuming due to the slow identification process of intensive data analysis. To help address this challenge, Biofy developed a solution that combines fourth-generation genetic sequencing with OCI Generative AI and Oracle AI Vector Search to identify complex patterns and recommend faster, more accurate life-saving diagnoses.

“Saving lives is what drives us,” said Paulo Perez, chief executive officer, Biofy Technologies. “We consider Oracle a true partner by providing local technical support to help us optimize OCI’s fully managed generative AI and Oracle AI Vector Search for advanced DNA sequencing. With better performance and cost-efficiency, OCI provides the scalability to democratize the analysis of genetic data for hospitals and labs worldwide.”

OCI Generative AI enables Biofy to leverage its choice of enterprise large language models and the latest open-source AI technology. Utilizing models trained with data from over 720,000 bacterial genomes, Biofy uses Oracle Autonomous Database to store the vectors for DNA data and Oracle AI Vector Search to help map the genetic material to the family of bacteria it comes from. In addition, OCI AI infrastructure provides Biofy the flexibility to scale its operations rapidly and efficiently as it expands to combat resistant infections across Brazil.

“With AI integrated into our portfolio of services and solutions, we work alongside our customers to deliver tailored, agile, and scalable solutions for their unique challenges,” said Leandro Vieira, vice president, AI & High-Tech Companies, Latin America, Oracle. “It’s an honor for us to be part of initiatives like Biofy’s recommender solution, which has the noble mission of saving lives through technology.”
