Wood halves time to hire using AI in Oracle Fusion Cloud HCM
Oracle Fusion Cloud HCM gives the consulting and engineering company AI capabilities that support faster recruiting and more efficient goal setting.
“Introducerea AI în soluția noastră de recrutare și în modulul de management al performanței a oferit rezultate fantastice. În plus față de experiența candidaților și a angajaților, am văzut, de asemenea, o îmbunătățire dramatică a timpului nostru de angajare pentru comerțul și ambarcațiunile noastre și pozițiile noastre rambursabile, mergând de la 45 de zile la 21 de zile.”
Wood is a 36,000-employee consulting and engineering company that develops solutions for more sustainable, affordable, and reliable energy and resources, including one of Europe’s largest hydrogen energy plants and about one-third of all the world’s carbon-capture storage projects. The company’s growth through acquisitions left it with many disparate human resources applications. Wood implemented Oracle Fusion Cloud HCM to deliver one global system and improve HR processes using the latest technology, including AI. For example, since using Oracle AI for HCM, which is embedded in the Oracle HCM application, Wood has seen a 46% increase in the number performance goals set by employees, as managers and employees use AI to help draft relevant goals. The company is also using AI capabilities in Oracle Fusion Cloud HCM to help improve how it recruits new talent, helping to nearly halve the time required to complete a hire.
We had dozens of HR systems and found it very difficult to pull together our employee data and reporting. Oracle Fusion Cloud HCM allowed us to engage with our workforce in one platform and use our HR data to drive key business decisions.
Why Wood chose Oracle
Wood selected Oracle Fusion Cloud HCM to deliver one global HR system that would give the company accurate data for employees throughout the company, eliminating the discrepancies among different legacy HR applications. Oracle Fusion HCM would also drive new efficiencies, such as self-service capability for employees. The company also wanted to move away from heavily customized on-premises applications and embrace new AI opportunities.
Wood’s leaders realized that Oracle Fusion Cloud HCM could help them encourage more internal mobility among the workforce by offering more skills development opportunities and accurate, up-to-date employee data. It also chose the application to give employees standardized HR processes and interfaces, as opposed to various ways of navigating HR functions across separate applications.
Results
Wood saw notable productivity gains from AI features built into Oracle Fusion Cloud HCM for recruiting and performance management. The company tapped 18 AI capabilities embedded in Oracle HCM and is testing another five AI features.
In recruiting, Wood achieved a 53% reduction in time to hire in its trade and craft workforce after implementing Oracle Fusion HCM, from 45 days to 21 days. AI helped Wood speed up recruitment and hiring by scanning resumes, matching candidates based on their skills to the best-suited roles, and drafting candidate communications, such as emails to schedule interviews. As a consulting company, it’s crucial for Wood to quickly hire staff who can deliver technical and project delivery services to clients. “If it takes us a long time to fill a role, then we can’t serve our clients, which has a big impact on the company’s revenue and reputation,” says Dawn Tittensor, Wood’s vice president of digital transformation.
For recruiters, Oracle Fusion HCM helped reduce time spent on day-to-day administrative tasks, giving them more time to focus on work such as thoroughly evaluating the best candidates for open roles, helping new hires transition into the company, and creating more opportunities for people seeking career moves within the organization. “We’re seeing a lot more applications per requisition. The increase signifies that we’re getting better at tapping into our potential candidates, whether they’re internal or external, and we’re really drawing out more skills relevant to roles,” Tittensor says. “Having one global recruitment system is driving that internal mobility.”
In performance management, AI capabilities can help employees draft personalized goals that align with the organization’s key objectives. Wood HR leaders say AI is helping to support conversations between managers and employees about their performance and how to formulate plans for their career development. After staffers began using embedded AI features in Oracle Fusion HCM, performance goals set rose from 37,000 to more than 54,000 year over year—a 46% increase. AI can suggest goals based on previous evaluations or use generative AI to help draft personalized performance goals. The company also adopted digital assistant capability in Oracle Fusion HCM. Wood expects that AI agents in the application will give employees more self-service options to help them find answers to their HR-related questions.
