Customers use Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) Storage Gateway to extend on-premises application data to Oracle Cloud. Integration with OCI Object Storage and Network File Storage (NFS) compliance make it easy to securely move files to and from Oracle Cloud. Data is encrypted both at rest and in-transit and built-in data integrity checks provides protection. Local caching provides enterprise applications instant access to files that are frequently used.
Available at no charge, Storage Gateway optimizes the movement of data to and from the cloud asynchronously by leveraging native integration with Oracle Object Storage. Object Storage is encrypted at rest, highly durable and backed up by end-to-end SLAs.
Easily bridge and store data generated by traditional applications that support common file system protocols like NFSv4, without having to modify the application. For example, adding or modifying a file in Object Storage results in automatic Storage Gateway updates.
For enterprises that commonly rely on NFS to provide reliable and durable data storage on-premises, Storage Gateway exposes a POSIX-Compliant NFS mount point that can be mounted to any host or application that supports an NFSv4 client.
Storage Gateway relies on Cloud Sync to move on-premises datasets asynchronously from a local file system to OCI Object Storage. Cloud Sync also synchronizes Storage Gateway file system changes back to the local file system.
The Storage Gateway management console lets users monitor overall system services and resources. Automated health checks keep an eye on the status of local storage, file system cache, metadata and log storage.
Customers manage the Storage Gateway using the OCI Console, command line interface (CLI), or software development kits. Alternatively, customers can manage files directly on Object Storage using any Oracle or third-party tools like Cyberduck or CloudBerry.
Storage Gateway handles large files using Object Storage multipart uploads for faster, more efficient, and resilient outcomes. With multipart uploads, individual parts of an object can be uploaded in parallel to reduce the time spent uploading.

By default, all data uploaded to OCI from Storage Gateway is encrypted at rest, using the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) 256 encryption algorithm. Alternatively, customers can supply their own encryption key used with Oracle Database Vault or manage it separately.
Data exchanged between Storage Gateway and Oracle Cloud is encrypted and exchanged between secure SSL endpoints using the HTTPS protocol.
Data access is managed using Oracle Identity and Access Management. Customers manage identities and grant access by leveraging existing organizational hierarchies and federated directory services, including Microsoft, Okta, and other SAML directory providers.
Storage Gateway uses Object Storage, which includes automatic data integrity checking that actively monitors the integrity of your data using checksums. Corrupted data is detected and flagged for remedy without human intervention.
Once a data integrity issue is identified, corrupt data is automatically healed from redundant copies. Any loss of data redundancy is automatically managed by recreating a new copy of the data. Object Storage always serves the most recent copy of the data that was written to the system.

Storage Gateway's Cloud Sync feature helps keep files synchronized across two NFS servers, and is ideal for data transfer, backup, and archive. Cloud Sync allows software that's not cloud native to use Object Storage without knowing how to read and write objects from an Object Storage bucket. Changes to files in Storage Gateway, including create, write, update, and delete, are automatically propogated to Object Storage. Uploads are asynchronous and buffered for performance, so Storage Gateway file changes are propagated to Object Storage based on desired behavior and policy.
Storage Gateway is a ideal for data migration and provides an efficient tool for moving data from your on-premises data center to the cloud. Storage Gateway tiers data by asynchronously moving cold and hot data to the cloud. Using Storage Gateway, script the movement of data from on-premises NAS servers to Object Storage. When creating a file system on the Storage Gateway, an Object Storage bucket with the same name is created in the OCI region of your choice. Storage Gateway completely manages data in the Object Storage bucket, meaning customers need only to interact with the local file system using normal file system commands.
Oracle Cloud Infrastructure was recently ranked the seventh-fastest performer on the IO500, a widely recognized, high-performance storage IO benchmark. The majority of other systems on the list are specialized on-premises environments, including research supercomputers.
Oracle achieved 500 GB/s write IO throughput and 13.1 million IOPS in metadata performance with a high-performance parallel file system using 270 nodes in an HPC cluster network running the BeeGFS BeeOND file system. To give this performance a sense of scale, Oracle's customer Zoom moves 7 PB of data each day to support 300 million meeting participants. The storage cluster used here could transfer and process that much data locally in less than 4 hours.
