Aster DM Healthcare, one of India’s largest hospital networks, serves millions of patients each year across more than 20 hospitals. The organization was using a refurbished cataloguing system along with spreadsheet-based taxonomies, which made it difficult to centralize items and services data across multiple hospital information systems and Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP. Managing 190,000 product SKUs, 80,000 service records, and numbering rules for 190,000 SKUs in this fragmented setup posed the challenge of duplication, delays, and inconsistent records. To address these challenges, the company built a master data management app on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure’s Oracle Autonomous AI Database with Oracle APEX, a built-in low-code application development framework, in just two and a half months that centralized data and made it readily available to ERP and hospital information system applications. Additionally, Oracle REST Data Services APIs simplified the integration of Oracle Cloud ERP and health information systems by facilitating seamless data synchronization without custom coding. Aster also developed a workflow engine with complex multilevel approvals for better data governance and audit trails to help address data compliance requirements, which has helped reduce costs and allowed the healthcare provider to avoid dependency on external workflow tools.
