MACOM sees faster loan approvals and business reporting with OCI
The IT services firm speeds up loan application reviews, business reports, and disaster recovery with OCI and Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse.
“We had a huge reporting requirement, where 15,000 users were reading live data. So, we brought in Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse, which scales by itself, and Oracle GoldenGate, which replicates the data live. That solved a lot of our problems.”
Business challenges
MACOM is the IT services division of the Manappuram Group. The organization’s flagship company faced significant limitations with its legacy on-premises infrastructure. Instability and performance issues impacted business processes, and the data center's vulnerability to natural disasters, such as flooding, presented a serious risk. To modernize its core systems, MACOM implemented Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). The project involved migrating three Manappuram Group entities to OCI and incorporating advanced features, including Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse, to support real-time reporting for 15,000-plus users. The OCI deployment resulted in greater infrastructure performance and scalability, higher availability and resilience in critical applications, improved security, and better customer service.
The Oracle licensing policy was very conducive for us. You can't get that kind of licensing policy in any other cloud, and we really did a lot of cost optimization there.
Why MACOM chose Oracle
MACOM provides IT services across 12 companies within the Manappuram Group. The on-premises infrastructure that supported the flagship company in the Manappuram Group was outdated, with no scalability and limited disaster recovery capabilities. MACOM decided to migrate to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) in dual regions across Mumbai and Hyderabad, using Oracle Exadata Database Service for production and disaster recovery capabilities. To meet its reporting needs for real-time business performance data, it implemented Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse and OCI GoldenGate. It activated Oracle Active Data Guard as well as Oracle Audit Vault and Database Firewall as part of its security strategy. Oracle Customer Success Services provided implementation and operating guidance.
Oracle offered MACOM a cost-effective licensing policy because the organization could bring existing Oracle Database licenses to run on OCI, through Oracle’s bring- your-own license policy. Oracle provided a dedicated cloud environment at a much lower rate compared to other cloud hyperscalers, and Oracle’s comprehensive technology stack offered database, application, and web servers in a single package, which MACOM could quickly scale up to support business growth. With Oracle Customer Success Services, MACOM had access to 24/7 support from Oracle experts with rich technological knowledge and experience.
Results
Migrating to Oracle Exadata Database Service provided Manappuram Group companies with 4X faster application performance. OCI helped the firms easily add nodes and scale infrastructure up and down as needed, establishing a stable environment to support its existing and future IT needs.
The implementation of Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse solved one of the group company’s reporting challenges. Reports were core to business operations and used by 15,000-plus employees to provide real-time business insights. These reports helped field staff make daily operational decisions and allowed management to track performance and support loan disbursement and collection strategies. MACOM used Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse and OCI Golden Gate for real-time reporting and data replication, which helped meet the rising demand by employees for this insight. MACOM created a more scalable reporting infrastructure and eliminated complex database administration.
Using OCI’s Mumbai and Hyderabad cloud regions also significantly bolstered Manappuram Group’s BCP capabilities. Oracle Cloud helped Macom cut the disaster shift time from nearly 3 hours to only 49 minutes, with a plan to decrease that further to 25 minutes.
Looking ahead, MACOM is using Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse as a foundation for AI initiatives and preparing its infrastructure to support future AI and analytics capabilities. The company is aiming to implement natural language querying for data access and is exploring the use of AI for analytics and reporting.
