Thrifty Car Rental UAE, part of the ARENCO Group, serves customers in the United Arab Emirates and Oman. A high volume of customers must be onboarded quickly at branches and rental counters before renting a vehicle—often during peak travel and seasonal demand—so speed, accuracy, and compliance in customer verification directly affect revenue and the customer experience.
The challenge was that the Know Your Customer (KYC) step required for rentals (verifying passports, Emirates IDs, and driving licenses) was largely manual. That led to long queues, inconsistent checks, and a greater risk of errors. It also added pressure on front-office staff and made it harder to maintain secure, auditable compliance. To improve the process, Thrifty implemented an AI-powered, real-time KYC automation solution on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), using OCI Enterprise AI and OCI Document Understanding for document extraction and validation, as well as anomaly detection. Thrifty also used Oracle Integration Cloud and Oracle API Gateway to connect to existing systems and OCI Kubernetes Engine to run the application.
Thrifty chose Oracle because it was already on OCI, integration was straightforward, costs were optimized by using existing investments, and OCI met enterprise security and UAE data requirements. In just four weeks, Thrifty went from concept to rollout. After go-live, the time needed for document verification fell from several minutes per customer to less than five seconds, helping Thrifty support faster rental counter onboarding, higher throughput without adding staff, improved accuracy and compliance, and better customer satisfaction.
