Oracle Configuration Manager (OCM) and Oracle Auto Service Request (ASR)

When installing Oracle Solaris 11 you will encounter two new services, Oracle Configuration Manager (OCM) and Oracle Auto Service Request (ASR).

 Oracle Configuration Manager

Oracle Solaris 11 reports configuration about the operating system and hardware to Oracle. Collecting this data helps develop better service and support programs. For example, configuration data collected through Oracle Configuration Manager is presented through a customer's My Oracle Support (MOS) portal. There it is possible to drill down on a customer's systems to see what Oracle software is running on them. The MOS portal is also useful for viewing health check status enabled by OCM data collection.

This service is enabled by default to send anonymous configuration information to Oracle. Administrators can choose to either register using My Oracle Support credentials or register anonymously using the hands-on installation or by configuring through Automated Installer. It is also possible to disable reporting so no data is sent back to Oracle.

For more details, see the Oracle Configuration Management.

 Oracle Auto Service Request

Oracle Solaris 11 also includes a service called Oracle Auto Service Request (ASR). ASR automatically opens Oracle service requests when specific faults occur. ASR is automatically enabled using My Oracle Support credentials provided for OCM during a hands-on installation or by configuring through Automated Installer.

For more details, see Oracle Auto Service Request.

 Man Pages

The following man pages describe how to enter new My Oracle Support credentials, vary the timing for collecting data, and other administrative tasks:
