Worldwide Clinical Trials, Inc. (WCT) is a global contract resource organization that provides full-service, early-through-late-phase drug development services to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. The organization distinguishes itself through its strong clinical trial methodology integrated with an effective global operations network to meet the needs of today’s life sciences industry.
The company’s early-phase business offers a full range of early-phase clinical research services and bioanalytical sciences. It also delivers specialized studies and consulting on processes ranging from study protocol development to regulatory submission.
WCT Early Phase deployed the Oracle Health Sciences LabPas Subject Recruitment Module to help accelerate patient identification for Phase I clinical trials and bio-equivalency studies.
The group had been using an internally developed database for Phase I trial recruitment, which had reached its scalability limits and did not provide the advanced query capability required to meet emerging market requirements, including the need for faster recruitment cycles. Phase I trials are shorter and require fewer subjects than studies in subsequent phases. As such, WCT might only have a few days to respond to a trial sponsor’s request. With Oracle Health Sciences LabPas Subject Recruitment Module’s volunteer look-up capability, WCT can quickly query its database for potential candidates to determine their eligibility for a specific study. As a result, the company can quickly respond to a potential client with information about the size of a specific population within the group’s database, improving its competitive advantage. The tool also speeds recruitment when it comes to launching Phase I studies. The group currently conducts approximately 200 Phase I studies annually and seeks to grow this number with the help of the new solution.
The company is also implementing Oracle Health Sciences LabPas Clinical Trial Module, which will enable it to better integrate Phase I data with its existing clinical data capture and management systems for greater insight and efficiency. The system will integrate with Oracle Health Sciences LabPas Patient Recruitment Module and will eliminate the need to consult paper-based documentation about patients and the recruitment process, as all information will be compiled digitally and made visible from a single interface.
“We considered several options when seeking a recruitment and clinical trial technology solution. We found that many of the systems in the market were not flexible enough and were not well suited for fast-paced, Phase I trials. Oracle Health Sciences LabPas Patient Recruitment Module delivered on both of these requirements. We were also able to work closely with the Oracle development team to provide key input that shaped the product to our specifications,” said Mark Ramminger, vice president, information technology, Worldwide Clinical Trials, Inc.
