Transitioning from Oracle E-Business Suite to Oracle Fusion Cloud Applications provides our organization with a more advanced and robust technology platform that supports overall business growth. The focus is gaining enhanced flexibility in reporting and achieving a comprehensive, integrated view of manufacturing, supply chain, and finance operations.

AV (formerly AeroVironment, Inc.) designs and manufactures combat-ready drones, loitering munitions systems, pseudo-satellites, and other defense systems that operate across air, land, sea, space, and cyber domains. As the company grew organically and through acquisitions, its on-premises technology infrastructure couldn’t keep up with the complexity of supporting integrations, compliance, and reporting activities across more than 200 applications. AV migrated its finance, manufacturing, and supply chain activities from on-premises Oracle E-Business Suite applications to Oracle Fusion Cloud Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Oracle Fusion Cloud Enterprise Performance Management (EPM), Oracle Fusion Cloud Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), and Oracle Fusion Cloud Supply Chain & Manufacturing (SCM) applications. With Oracle Fusion Cloud Applications hosted on Oracle Government Cloud, AV can take advantage of the platform’s scalability and enhanced security while adhering to defense sector data residency requirements. AV also replaced MuleSoft with Oracle Integration to connect its Oracle and non-Oracle applications and the data stored there, helping it reduce the burden of building and maintaining point-to-point interfaces.

Why AV chose Oracle

Having integrated half a dozen major acquisitions in the last 10 years, AV is on an extended growth streak. It has deployed products and solutions in more than 100 countries, and its annual revenue is projected to reach close to $2 billion in fiscal year 2026—a more than a 700% increase in just the last decade. This rapid growth pushed the aerospace and defense contractor’s on-premises technology infrastructure to its limits. Custom interfaces were built to connect dozens of non-Oracle applications, many of them from acquired companies, with one another and with AV’s highly customized Oracle E-Business Suite finance, manufacturing, and supply chain applications. This patchwork created silos of information that required manual consolidation for reporting at the enterprise level.

To solve these problems, AV evaluated cloud solutions from several providers, including Oracle, SAP, and Workday. The company selected Oracle Cloud ERP and SCM, running on Oracle Government Cloud, based on Oracle’s ability to deliver an integrated solution spanning finance, supply chain, and manufacturing in a secure and compliant government cloud environment. “No other company has done such an extensive implementation of finance and supply chain applications on a government cloud,” says Aniket Majumder, AV’s chief information officer. “We had confidence that Oracle could.”

Results

With its move from Oracle on-premises applications to Oracle Cloud ERP and Oracle Cloud SCM, AV standardized its finance, manufacturing, and supply chain business practices and adopted a single and more granular chart of accounts, helping it speed the integration of acquired companies.

The migration helped AV’s finance, manufacturing, and supply chain teams break down silos of information, giving them a holistic view of company operations. Quarterly feature updates to Oracle Fusion Cloud Applications eliminate the need for customizations, freeing up IT staff to focus on value-added activities. AV also replaced its patchwork of integration tools with Oracle Integration Cloud, centralizing more than 100 application/data integrations onto a single enterprise platform. As integrations are added or updated, IT staff can monitor any technical, data, or configuration exceptions in real time so that they can correct errors.

AV is also using the Oracle APEX low-code development platform to quickly build and deploy new workflow applications, such as tuition reimbursement and international travel approvals, automating previously manual processes.

As AV continues to roll out more Oracle Cloud ERP and SCM applications, it's working closely with Oracle to pilot embedded AI agents. Running its Oracle finance, manufacturing, and supply chain applications on Oracle Government Cloud enables the company to rigorously control system access, help ensure data sovereignty, and meet industry standards for security and compliance while benefiting from the scalability, continuous innovation, and other benefits of cloud services.
