The finance and IT teams at MGM Resorts International support more than 15 properties in Las Vegas and across the US&mdash;including iconic destinations such as the Bellagio and Mandalay Bay&mdash;so well that customers never notice what they do. Behind the scenes, the teams manage financial systems that process wire transfers, credit card data, vendor orders, and more, all for a business that&rsquo;s really multiple industries such as food and beverage, hotels, and entertainment.
But back in 2018, the company&rsquo;s patchwork of systems, some of them nearly 40 years old, meant that such magic was getting harder and harder to pull off. &ldquo;Much of the time, we had to manually log into systems to find the financial data we needed,&rdquo; says Emmy Kravetz, executive director of ERP. &ldquo;It was inefficient and sometimes resulted in discrepancies. We needed more advanced features that let us better support the business.&rdquo; That wasn&rsquo;t going to happen with MGM Resorts&rsquo; legacy on-premises systems, which couldn&rsquo;t connect to new applications and take advantage of automation.

World’s largest movie theater chain turns to Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP to streamline procurement practices.

<!DOCTYPE html> In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, AMC Theatres&mdash;the largest movie theater chain in the world&mdash;went from generating more than $4 billion in revenue a year to less than $200 million in 2020. Additionally, supply chain pressures forced AMC to change popcorn suppliers and eliminate other items from the menu for months. The theater chain was already planning to replace an existing Oracle E-Business Suite system with a cloud solution, but the pandemic accelerated the timetable.
Economic pressures and the many distractions of COVID led management&nbsp; to start a journey to the cloud with a small, manageable, and high-impact project. With no real procurement system in place and a heavy reliance on third-party suppliers, AMC sought a fast, reliable way to solve its supply chain issues without implementing a complete ERP cloud solution. At a time when managing supplier relations was critical, the need to centralize procurement functions was paramount.

Servicing clients in the professional services industry, Grant Thornton&rsquo;s employees are its core competency, but due to years of evolution and expansion, the company was challenged with an abundance of disparate legacy software across its human resources department. These systems created too many manual tasks, including many paper-based processes and ad-hoc solutions that caused disconnects within the organization. As the firm experienced rapid growth in recent years, the gaps became even more pronounced.
The legacy systems did little to support the company culture or employee experience, causing administrative delays that were taking time away from servicing clients and other stakeholders. Leadership also found it increasingly difficult to make informed decisions without timely insights and visibility into performance across HR and beyond.
The goal for Grant Thornton was to adopt a platform that could reduce manual administrative tasks, create streamlined processes, and guide decision-making with more consistent, up-to-date information.

As a result, the leadership team created a permanent organization called the Digital Innovation Center of Excellence (DICE), with the hub located at the FedEx headquarters and regional innovation centers of excellence in Asia and Europe. The DICE team wanted bold steps to make breakthrough efficiency gains in its back-office operations&mdash;and that meant bringing in the most innovative technologies and tactics. This transformation required a large-scale move to cloud applications.

Teams set out determined to shake the dominance that Oracle Red Bull Racing&rsquo;s Max Verstappen had shown throughout the 2023 season. Chaos ensued as Verstappen battled a five-second penalty, a damaged front wing, and difficult track conditions, leaving him halfway down the leaderboard at one point. Yet, the team calculated an aggressive race strategy to take advantage of the circuit&rsquo;s four straights and low-speed corners, and Verstappen overtook driver after driver to win his 18th race of the season. He would go on to set the record with a win in the season&rsquo;s final Grand Prix, a week later in Abu Dhabi.
The success in Las Vegas epitomized the combination of tech-powered strategy, teamwork, and stellar driving by Verstappen and fellow driver Sergio P&eacute;rez that defined the most dominant season ever for a Formula One team. It helped Oracle Red Bull Racing garner a second successive Constructors&rsquo; World Championship, a third successive Driver&rsquo;s World Championship for Verstappen, victory in 21 of 22 races, a first one-two in the Driver&rsquo;s World Championship and a multitude of other records.
Oracle Red Bull Racing&rsquo;s accomplishments reflect the team&rsquo;s commitment to innovation and its embrace of data and technology. The team has a close technology partnership with Oracle, including running billions of Monte Carlo simulations using&nbsp;<a href="https://www.oracle.com/be/cloud/">Oracle Cloud Infrastructure&nbsp;(OCI)</a> to explore the different scenarios and outcome probabilities before and during every Grand Prix.
In addition to simulations for on-track performance, Oracle technology supports The Paddock, Oracle Red Bull Racing&rsquo;s award-winning fan engagement platform; analytics for Oracle Red Bull Sim Racing, its Esports team; and the development of Red Bull Ford Powertrain&rsquo;s new race engine, through some of the most advanced simulations, set to debut in 2026.
