At Indaver, e-service plays a critical role in customer service and the company's commitment to sustainability. To this end, the company wanted to replace its legacy business intelligence (BI) environment with a solution that could handle its growing need for more complex and faster operational and management reporting.

Working with Oracle, Indaver created a new BI environment using Oracle Business Intelligence combined with Oracle Database. Today, it delivers richer reporting and insight to its industrial customers.

The company and its customers profit from the data in Oracle Database, through Indaver's customer care portal, which allows industrial customers to follow their waste removal lifecycle from removal request through final treatment and invoicing. The e-reporting tools provide customers with several important benefits: paperless exchange of data, online traceability of the complete waste chain, and the ability to measure and control waste generation across every business unit and production plant.

E-reporting provides Indaver's industrial customers with many benefits, including online traceability of the waste chain from delivery to invoicing. This enables customers to measure and control waste generation at every production plant. The new portal also offers Indaver’s customers insight in the sustainability of their waste management through the display of the percentage of their waste streams that result in material recovery (M-recovery) or in energy (E-recovery).

As waste management is subject to constantly changing legal requirements and legislation, the portal also offers compliancy testing and checking for administrative and legal duties. Whenever new legislation comes into effect, the rules will be incorporated in the portal. In many cases, the balance between waste-management costs and a possible or actual return is unclear for business. Therefore, the portal offers full transparency on costs and revenues of the customer’s waste-management efforts.

Finally, the solution saves time and provides valuable insight through dashboards. Customers can use multiple reports that they can customize to their own needs. By providing customers full transparency into their waste management, Indaver empowers them to control and minimize waste production in every step of their production processes. Indaver then offers the most sustainable waste-treatment options for its customers, and helps them to maximize material and energy recovery.

Execution

Oracle partner i4BI implemented the Oracle-based BI environment, delivering a complete solution that fits Indaver’s needs. i4BI supported Indaver during the entire implementation process, delivering valuable insight from previous implementations. As part of the implementation process, Indaver worked closely with end users to optimize arrangement of the dashboards to accelerate user adoption and the time to value. In 2013, Indaver was honored with the Oracle Excellence Award: Eco-Enterprise Innovation.

During the implementation phase, Indaver worked with Oracle partner i4BI, part of the Kronos group. "We worked closely through the entire process, starting with product selection,” Wezenbeek said. “i4BI was heavily involved in designing the BI environment and data warehouse. Together, we set up, developed, and implemented the environments. i4BI also effectively transferred knowledge to our team, allowing us to maximize the benefits we receive from our Oracle-based BI environment."

Four i4BI employees were on site at Indaver during the height of the implementation. i4BI and Indaver are still partnering. Today, i4BI participates in a support team that also includes Indaver employees.
