Marz Systems Multiplies Value for Clients with Infrastructure as a Service

Share

We found the capabilities of other major cloud providers lacking in terms of predictable performance and the ability to scale up solutions. Oracle Cloud Infrastructure provides the scale and performance we need to deliver mission-critical systems to our enterprise customers.

Marz Systems Doubles Performance of Client’s Enterprise Resource Planning Applications with Oracle Solution

Marz Systems, a San Francisco Bay-area IT solutions provider and Oracle Gold Partner, found that, while many of its clients embraced a move to the cloud, some were experiencing performance issues with their enterprise applications. Specifically, many discover that most public clouds do not perform well enough, or consistently enough, to support business-critical enterprise applications.

Marz Systems turned to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) solutions, including Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, to successfully migrate a Fortune 500 biotech firm’s enterprise resource planning (ERP) applications to the cloud while achieving a two-fold performance boost over competing solutions.

Business Challenge
  • Enable a client—a leading biotech firm—to boost IT infrastructure and enterprise application performance while reducing hardware spend and systems administration costs
  • Deliver a cloud solution that can ensure the speed, reliability, and security required for the client’s business-critical ERP environment
  • Gain a competitive advantage as an IT solutions provider by helping clients achieve the benefits of seamless and scalable cloud applications, regardless of size
Results
  • Used Oracle Cloud Infrastructure to deliver a two-fold boost in ERP application performance for a biotech firm, a result not possible with other major cloud providers
  • Ensured the scalability, reliability, and high levels of security needed to support the biotech firm’s critical enterprise applications
  • Achieved five-to-one server consolidation—with 12 bare metal servers taking the place of 60 in the legacy data center environment—reducing costs, complexity, and maintenance requirements
  • Benefitted from Oracle’s ability to combine the elasticity and utility of the public cloud with the granular control, security, and predictability of on-premises infrastructure
  • Helped the customer transform capital expenses into operating expenses, while consolidating infrastructure, and controlling administration and data center operational costs
  • Elevated and assured security with single sign-on capabilities for the client using Oracle Internet Directory
  • Gained a competitive advantage in the IT services market with the ability to dynamically adjust cloud compute, storage, and network resources to match distinct customer requirements, like an on-premises bespoke service

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is not a one-size-fits-all service. We were able to dynamically adjust compute, storage, and network resources to match customer requirements, resulting in high performance and customer satisfaction.

— Tahir Muhammad, Vice President, Information Technology, Marz Systems

Execution

A Fortune 500 biotech firm determined that the on-premises data center hosting its Oracle E-Business Suite environment no longer met its needs. Marz worked with the firm to explore on-premises and cloud options, and the client chose Oracle Cloud Infrastructure as a Service as the best solution for ensuring performance and scalability while reducing capital expenditures and systems administration costs.

Marz deployed 12 bare metal servers with 432 cores. A pair of systems supports Oracle E-Business Suite, while additional servers run Oracle Governance, Risk and Compliance and Oracle SOA Suite. Quality assurance and production environments run on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, while production data is cloned back to smaller development and test environments that remain on-premises
