Challenges

A word from Aegion Corporation

  • “By integrating Oracle’s Primavera solutions with Oracle’s JD Edwards EnterpriseOne and Oracle CRM On Demand, we’ve created a platform that will enable us to achieve new levels of project management precision—and competitiveness—going forward.” – Justin McFarland, Director of Applications, Aegion Corp.

  • Strengthen and standardize project management processes across the organization, starting with the company’s Insituform Technologies group, which provides cured-in-place pipelines primarily to public sector organizations that have specific requirements
  • Increase visibility into project schedules, budgeting, costs, and progress to identify emerging issues quickly and take action to minimize risk
  • Improve operational efficiency and data integrity, and allow project management teams to focus on strategic priorities
  • Standardize on a project management solution and integrate it with the company’s legacy enterprise resource planning (ERP) and customer relationship management (CRM) solutions to optimize its investment and reduce the need to maintain and support numerous duplicate IT environments across the organization
  • Gain the ability to support larger infrastructure projects and an increase in global operations, while maintaining margins
  • Ensure consistent and seamless project tracking and management, from the sales cycle, through to project completion

Solutions

  • Deployed Oracle’s Primavera P6 Enterprise Project Portfolio Management and Primavera Contract Management, Business Intelligence Publisher Edition, and integrated the solutions with the company’s JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.0 and Oracle CRM On Demand applications to ensure end-to-end visibility and enhanced control for the company’s pipeline and infrastructure development rehabilitation projects—from new-business wins, through to project completions
  • Standardized and created a single source for all project scheduling information that improved construction crew utilization, reduced penalties related to delays, avoided rush charges, and improved materials planning and utilization
  • Gained insight into emerging issues and enabled more rapid corrective action, supporting on-budget and on-time completion of projects, including public sector construction initiatives that require granular reporting
  • Improved ability to forecast labor and materials, avoiding delays, boosting customer satisfaction, and maintaining margins
  • Expanded project manager insight and control with more accurate and comprehensive data, including the ability to see all aspects of a project in real time—from onset of scheduling and resource planning and including financial performance
  • Standardized project scheduling and management processes to help support larger and more geographically dispersed projects
  • Created a platform that the company can roll out across its seven operating companies, starting with the Insituform group
  • Reduced the need for data re-entry across multiple systems to improve productivity and data accuracy and ensured that project management, ERP, and CRM systems share consistent and up-to-date information

Why Oracle

“We rely on Oracle’s solutions across our organization, from JD Edwards EnterpriseOne ERP, to Oracle CRM On Demand system. When it came time to select a foundation for our new project management initiative, Oracle offered a compelling choice. Not only do Oracle’s Primavera solutions set the industry standard for project management technology, we’ve also streamlined vendor management,” said Justin McFarland, director of applications, Aegion Corp.

Implementation Process

Integration was an important part of Aegion’s project management implementation. To achieve end-to-end project visibility and control, the company needed to integrate Primavera solutions with its JD Edwards EnterpriseOne and Oracle CRM On Demand applications. It worked with Partners Consulting to plan and execute the integrations, focusing on removing duplicate data entries, enforcing data integrity, and automating data transfer at appropriate times.

The company integrated Oracle CRM On Demand to Primavera P6 Enterprise Project Portfolio Management and Primavera Contract Management, Business Intelligence Publisher Edition. Now, when the company is in the final round of a new business bid, it can automatically create project management shells in its Primavera environment using information flows from its CRM system. It does not need to recreate and rekey information and has immediate visibility into upcoming projects from a scheduling and planning perspective.

Aegion also integrated JD Edwards EnterpriseOne to Primavera P6 Enterprise Project Portfolio Management to ensure that project numbers are in synch between its project management and financial management systems.

The integration between Primavera Contract Management, Business Intelligence Publisher Edition and JD Edwards EnterpriseOne was the most extensive project. Since JD Edwards EnterpriseOne is the company’s financial system of record, it must reflect updates made in the contract management system, and vice versa. The project’s goal was to gain an environment where project managers live in Primavera Contract Management, with their approvals and changes automatically flowing into JD Edwards EnterpriseOne.

Aegion and Partners Consulting completed the integrations in six months.

Partner

Partners Consulting spearheaded the integrations between Aegion’s Primavera, JD Edwards EnterpriseOne, and Oracle CRM On Demand applications. “Our work with Partners Consulting was instrumental in establishing a foundation for strengthened and standardized project management across our organization. The integrations that Partners created enable us to optimize the value of Oracle solutions and our investment in them to propel our new organization forward,” McFarland said.
