Santa Rosa Hospital Boosts Patient Care System’s Performance and Doubles Service Capacity with Oracle

Founded in 1997, Santa Rosa Hospital, based in Cuiabá, Brazil, is a private institution specializing in medium and high complexity medical procedures. Some 85% of the doctors working there are not direct employees of the hospital but still use the facilities to see patients and perform medical procedures. In 2011, all administrative and service hospital procedures were digitized to strengthen control of service quality and administrative management.

The rapid growth in the number of procedures and the need to improve the hospital’s data security led Santa Rosa Hospital to look for a solution that would increase its data storage capacity and processing performance, while ensuring continuous operation of the hospital’s management system in case of failure.
 
Business Challenge
  • Accelerate the system’s speed and improve performance while eliminating delays of important applications, such as issuing prescriptions

Results
  • Ensured full access to the database even when a server crashes, and provided greater data security of all patient personal information with Oracle Database Backup Service, which stores data in the cloud and allows the system to run on the virtual server while the physical one is reestablished
  • Reduced the backup process from 24 hours to only 2 hours
  • Cut costs, eliminating the need for an additional server along with maintenance expenses
  • Boosted the system’s performance with Oracle Database Appliance and improved our patient experience—information that took up to three minutes to be consulted now takes two seconds
  • Reduced average emergency room consultation time from 15 minutes to 6 minutes—expanding the hospital’s monthly capacity to approximately 7,000 patients
  • Centralized technical support as all platforms operate in the Oracle Cloud, which optimized the system maintenance staff’s activities, and saved space when one server replaced all 10 servers
  • Enabled the hospital to pursue a new international health IT certification with its new robust and reliable structure
