NOTE: This capability is planned for a new product to be introduced in the future.
Why Are We Building This?
Most first-generation analytics applications are rigid and not easy to extend without significant disruption and downtime. To address this challenge as well as the need for customers to exploit data insights, we are developing a new architectural approach. This extensible analytics application architecture will enable customers to quickly mash-up data between governed enterprise data sources and personal sources not yet curated into the enterprise information model.
The Oracle Analytics roadmap includes analytics applications for ERP, HCM, SCM, and CX that are extensible across all architectural layers—from data to data model to user experience. This extensibility will be delivered in a completely self-service–managed service that needs minimal IT support. Out-of-the-box content can be automatically patched and upgraded. Customer configurations can be carried forward automatically.
The enterprise semantic layer will be configured by wizards and won’t require administrative access. These wizards will enable business analysts to add alternate hierarchies, dimensions, metrics, attributes, facts, and permissions. Organizations will be able to include custom data, adding new subject areas as needed, and creating a wide array of new and enhanced metrics supported by that data. You'll be able to combine custom and governed data through the wizard as well. Customer content added using the data set and data flow capabilities in Oracle Analytics Cloud will be automatically carried forward during patching and upgrades. IT-curated data sources can be loaded and refreshed into the customer-managed schemas by the ETL tool of choice.
The extensible analytics applications architecture will provide customers with an adaptable data platform, enabling organizations to avoid the cost and complexity of maintaining custom applications. The capability will also provide customers with migration assurance as they update and migrate to new releases of Oracle SaaS applications. They won’t need to rebuild their analytics applications and data platforms to take advantage of changes and extensions in the underlying applications.
