Why Are We Building This?
Preparing data for analysis is a critical element of any data and analytics supply chain. But not everyone in the organization needs to prepare data for each analysis. Global transformation policies and enhanced data flows enable agile, self-service data preparation for larger communities that are accustomed to a governed data environment.
As data is ingested, deep semantic profiling is used to make recommendations for potential transformations and enrichments. Manual transformation can also be performed to meet downstream analysis requirements. Some repetitive actions should be automatically performed on specific types of data—especially sensitive data—such as credit card and social security numbers.
Global transformation policies will be executed at the time of data ingestion, protecting personally identifiable or confidential information by automatically masking or removing the information prior to any user seeing it. Additionally, it will enable automation of common actions that are recommended and accepted frequently, so that analysts can spend more time actually analyzing data instead of preparing it.
In order to democratize the extract, transform, load (ETL) process—especially as part of agile data discovery—data stewards and key analysts need sophisticated transformation capabilities without having to involve professional data transformation specialists. Data flows enable these capabilities. Enhanced sharing of steps across projects and better scheduling and monitoring of multistep activities are being added to the product.
Data preparation linked to data analysis and discovery provides an all-in-one process for analysts as well as oversight to cleanse, join, enhance, and store data before it is shared with the broader community. By automatically performing essential data preparation, Oracle Analytics ensures important data governance while making the best data available for everyone in the organization.
