Improve the Search Experience for New and Existing Analytics Content Using Intelligent Search

Why Are We Building This?
In order to make analytics and data available to everyone, systems must adapt to the way you work, not the other way around. With intelligent search, you can easily find the right content—by searching via text or speech. Oracle Analytics will determine the best answer to your question, dynamically generating it or suggesting predefined content.

What is intelligent search?

Intelligent search requires the ability to understand the question posed through speech or text (using natural language query) as well as the ability to search all available repositions and datasets, and then surface the most appropriate visualization for that data. If analyses have already been created, it will surface that information, searching across governed and personal data. If content doesn’t exist, the system will evaluate which data source(s) best fit the question you ask and dynamically generate visualizations that answer your question.You do not need to know the source of data before you search for it; ML algorithms do it for you.

For a more personalized search experience, we will enhance our intelligent search capabilities to better understand some of the vagaries of natural language:

  • Recognizing plurals. Regardless of language, singular and plural forms of a word are sometimes different. For example: “mouse” and “mice.”
  • Understanding geography. You can guide the interpretation of geographical terms. For example: New York can mean the city, state, or county.
  • Defining synonyms. For example: the data may be defined as “line of business,” but you want to refer to it as “LOB” or “business line.”
  • Customizing definitions. For example: you can populate customer lists so that searches that involve “ABC Company” can be resolved by using its related customer number. You can also define alternative names for derived fields such as “earnings before interest, taxes, and adjustments” can be “EBITA” or simply “earnings.”

Additionally, indexing frequency will be improved.

Intelligent search is available on any device or format—laptop or mobile, spoken or text. Analysis is auto-authored using ML, taking the guesswork out of the best way to portray answers based on your question. Enabling these capabilities through chatbots, Slack, and other mechanisms provides greater access to relevant information for everyone in the organization: business users, staff, partners, and customers.
