It’s easy to see why a complete, integrated hardware and software stack that’s engineered and certified to work together can give you a better IT solution for your business—especially when you know that the whole solution, from applications to disk, comes from Oracle.
What may be surprising is how fast, efficient, and uncomplicated things become when you run Oracle applications on Oracle hardware.
That’s why Oracle customers say it best.
Video: “Oracle provides the technology that we need for us to be innovative.”Donald Twesiga, Executive Head of IT Operations, SafaricomWatch the Video (3:00)It Makes Sense
Oracle enterprise applications run best on Oracle systems. That should come as no surprise—especially if you’re already a user of Oracle software or hardware.
3Because they have access to the entire stack, Oracle engineers can ensure that the hardware, software, and everything in between are not just integrated, but also tested and optimized for unprecedented performance and reliability. But what does it mean for you to have faster business processes, faster reporting capabilities, and real-time access to business-critical data?
Measurable Business Results
It’s not business as usual. Oracle enterprise applications running on Oracle hardware result in performance increases that make a difference—to user productivity, to operating expenses, to response times, to customer experience, and to the bottom line.
- View your business-critical reports and analyze data in real time—no waiting
- Get comfortable with “always-on” availability, 24/7
- Simplify deployment, implementation, management, upgrades, and maintenance with predictable deployments and standardized environments that reduce risk, costs, and complexity
- See higher productivity from users with solutions that let them—for example—double the number of payments processed in an hour or get query responses back in 15 seconds instead of 5 minutes
4 -
Fact: According to an assessment, the San Diego Unified School District is on track to capture an additional US$8.2 million in attendance reimbursement thanks to the intelligence compiled by their Oracle solution.
- Translate higher performance into new levels of scalability that let you add more concurrent users and deploy applications faster with no waiting for bottlenecked resources
- Manage the entire stack—applications, hardware, deployments, patches, upgrades, and more—from one pane of glass
- Give customers a better experience with personalized interactions and faster service—including faster self-service searches
Faster, Better, and Simplified—for IT and for Business Managers
In every industry, IT is dealing with rising costs, shrinking budgets, overtaxed resources, underused assets, and inflexible systems. More complex service level agreements (SLAs) and integration difficulties from multivendor systems translate into long, unpredictable deployment times and unscheduled downtimes.
And by the way, is the solution mobile? Does it work on the devices your employees are already using? Is it available 24/7?
5For their part, line-of-business (LOB) managers are too often stuck with overly complex systems that lack agility, security, and compliance. This can result in damaged reputations, missed revenue opportunities, reduced user productivity, and a less-competitive business.
“The problem with selecting hardware is that it is fairly complicated and high risk. Oracle having done all the research and the testing of how to run JD Edwards on a SPARC server made it fairly easy to select that as a platform. It eliminated all the risk for us—[we didn’t have] to do the testing, negotiate with suppliers, or try to form performance guarantees on whatever the third-party suppliers would offer.”Renier Van Rooyen, Enterprise Architecture Manager, Multotec Holdings (PTY) LimitedRunning Oracle enterprise applications on Oracle hardware simplifies IT—and that’s when things start to change.
LOB organizations such as finance, procurement, HR, customer care, manufacturing, sales, and marketing are able to change the way they deliver services to their clients because bottlenecks are eliminated. Completely new ways of performing business functions become feasible as valuable IT resources are freed up to focus on innovation.

Are you challenged by customer expectations that are higher than ever? For example, how are you handling explosive data growth? Does your business require instant access to data across the enterprise so users can have the information and real-time insight they need to make decisions and deliver results?
9Your users want tools to do their jobs now—not in a couple of days or even a couple of hours. Your business can’t afford to wait overnight for supply chain planning data and project costing information. And waiting for processing backlogs to clear before entering financial data, running payroll, and generating reports is simply unacceptable.

Alpha Natural Resources is one of the largest coal producers in the US and the world’s third-largest supplier of the metallurgical coal used in steel. When the company decided to move from its hosting provider to Oracle Exadata, it was looking for faster performance and a better overall throughput. What it found was that its current hosted service was more expensive than owning an Oracle engineered system. Company executives say they are on track to reduce TCO costs by half, saving Alpha Natural Resources US$650,000 annually and approximately US$3.25 million over five years. In addition, the company saw an improvement in availability and experienced zero unplanned downtime. Users also reported improved Oracle E-Business Suite application performance—including faster processing for key business functions running on Oracle Exadata. For example, payroll procedures and end-of-month processes were substantially shortened, as were key financial reconciliation routines. IT managers attribute the performance boost in part to Oracle Exadata's ability to minimize I/O bottlenecks. |
Oracle Applications Run Best on Oracle Systems“For months leading up to our conversion over to Oracle Exadata, we averaged two unplanned outages every month with our hosting provider. We have now completed a full year on Oracle Exadata without a single unplanned event.”

Denver Regional Transportation District (RTD) is the regional authority for public transit services (bus and light rail systems) in eight counties around Denver, Colorado. The IT environment at Denver RTD was growing rapidly and continuing to accelerate as it prepared for a US$6 billion expansion of its rail lines in the coming years. Additional challenges—including end-of-life hardware planning and a growing lack of storage—contributed to the decision to migrate its core business systems to Oracle Exadata running on Oracle Linux. Right out of the box, Denver RTD realized a two-fold gain in data compression with Oracle Exadata. It also achieved performance improvements of two- to three-fold for database backups, clones, and refreshes, as well as long-running processes for Oracle E-Business Suite. |

The company also wanted to address IT performance issues that had begun to escalate with its rapid growth. (The company’s supply chain and demand management environments alone process 13 million queries along with 30,000 batch jobs and reports monthly.) With Oracle Exadata, Garmin created a highly scalable and extreme performance platform that will let the company continue to migrate applications—including its core Oracle E-Business Suite database—to Oracle Exadata. Garmin consolidated four production databases and 20 nonproduction databases onto the two Oracle Exadata Database Machine half racks, significantly reducing IT costs. Wm Morrison Supermarkets PLC (Morrisons) is the United Kingdom’s fourth-largest food retailer and second-largest food manufacturer. With systems previously deployed on an HP Superdome, Morrisons decided to improve its ability to meet the changing requirements of grocery shoppers and anticipate growth into the convenience store sector by consolidating IT. In addition, it wanted to be able to do analysis across a large number of manufacturing, warehousing, retail, and financial applications, providing one view of the data across the organization for improved customer service. Morrisons also needed to maintain enough capacity on the central data warehouse platform to support anticipated growth in the number and complexity of business intelligence queries. Morrisons replaced HP Superdome with Oracle Exadata to increase capacity and improve processing power. The company saw faster analysis which allowed more-informed decision-making throughout the manufacturing, warehousing, and retail business groups. |

Multotec provides products and services to the mineral processing and mining and power-generation industries. When it decided to upgrade its JD Edwards EnterpriseOne applications, it also decided to upgrade the hardware that it ran on. After learning about Oracle Optimized Solution for JD Edwards EnterpriseOne, Multotec decided that it made sense to go with a hardware and software solution that had already been tested to run together, rather than doing all the research, testing, and negotiating on its own. “The problem with selecting hardware is that it is fairly complicated and high-risk. All of Oracle’s research and testing of how to run JD Edwards on a SPARC T4 server made it fairly easy to select that as a platform.
