Business challenges

eComex NSI develops foreign trade management software that companies use to export and import products and services from Brazil. Reliability is essential, as is the security of information, such as purchase orders, receipt of goods, sales orders, exchange steps relating to accounts payable and receivable in foreign currency, tax, and government data.

The company ran Oracle Database on-premises for many years. However, over time eComex NSI continued to grow and needed greater storage and  processing capacity. The company decided to migrate to the cloud for better scalability and performance, as well as greater competitiveness.

Why eComex NSI chose Oracle

Because of its long history with Oracle, choosing Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) was a natural step. Company leaders knew OCI’s high availability and security would be a crucial requirement because of the confidential data the company´s customers process.

Finally, eComex NSI was one of the first companies to use OCI Document Understanding, an artificial intelligence service that allows developers to extract texts, tables, and other data from document files through APIs. This helps automate tedious business processes and customizes document extraction.

Results

The company gained about 200 clients who use its foreign trade management software, with 60% operating on OCI (the remaining 40% are in the migration process). This helped the company increase its recurring revenue by almost 70%, due to implementation of its software and monthly fees for cloud usage. Meanwhile, companies that ran eComex NSI software on OCI saw problem resolution drop from days to only minutes. With Oracle Cloud, incident identification is done in a few minutes, based on monitoring the OCI dashboard. The creation of instances took about 30 minutes, versus two or three days in an on-premises environment.

Finally, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Document Understanding helped eComex NSI create a digital assistant. With Oracle AI, the assistant can read a document and extract data from it, automatically inserting the information into the client's database. The assistant generated a productivity gain of up to 80% for analysts who used to enter data manually.
