“After moving to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, we saw nearly triple the improvement in website load and response times for our customers and far more stable operations. Our teams and clients notice the difference every day.”
Newfold Digital supports millions of customers worldwide with website builder, advanced and managed hosting, domain name registration, and other web services. The company’s main technology challenge was to migrate from 14 global data centers and a blend of on-premises and legacy cloud solutions to a single platform in order to improve customers’ website speeds and reliability, reduce costs, and deploy new services faster.
Newfold accomplished these goals by moving its customer workloads and core web hosting products to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), leveraging Oracle Exadata Database Service on Dedicated Infrastructure.
Newfold Digital selected OCI to deliver enterprise-grade performance, reliability, and security to the millions of small businesses that rely on its platforms. OCI’s global reach, , high performance architecture, reliability, security and strong engineering support enabled Newfold to enter new markets and run mission-critical hosting workloads with the same resilience and scalability typically reserved for large enterprises without heavy upfront capital investments and extended shipping/setup time. Managed Oracle databases, including Oracle Exadata Database Service, combined with cloud native infrastructure and automation, streamlined the company’s migration of more than a million customer websites, improving uptime and consistency at scale. This enabled Newfold to devote more resources to innovation and value-added services, while giving small and midsize businesses access to the kind of robust, secure infrastructure that helps them compete and grow.
Newfold Digital’s migration to OCI yielded immediate improvements in operational agility, unit economics, and customer experience. Performance testing demonstrated that customers’ websites now load and respond up to three times faster than before, a key metric for customer satisfaction and retention. The stability of customers’ sites also improved, as reflected by a marked decrease in customer support calls related to performance and uptime. These improvements have freed support teams to focus more on product-related inquiries, and less on troubleshooting.
With OCI’s cloud native automation and global footprint, Newfold Digital reduced its deployment timelines for entering new markets. As a result, it was able to launch hosting environments in an unprecedented nine new markets within four months of OCI deployment. The company could also test and launch new services with far less capital investment, reducing its risk and facilitating its fast-paced global expansion.
The flat global pricing for OCI services eliminated the cost variability that comes with other hyperscale clouds, delivering predictable—and lower—unit costs for the company.
Newfold’s move to OCI also lowered the capital and operational overhead linked to running physical data centers. Additionally, OCI’s managed database services reduced the complexity of migrating Newfold’s core systems.
All in all, Newfold reports higher customer satisfaction and renewal rates, bolstered by responsive support from Oracle engineering and consulting teams.
Newfold Digital helps more than 6 million small and medium-sized businesses worldwide succeed online with a suite of leading web hosting, domain, and other digital services through brands such as Bluehost, Network Solutions, HostGator, and Crazy Domains.
