This report covers the most important security and compliance issues, as identified by your peers, in today’s hybrid cloud organizations.
The Oracle and KPMG Cloud Threat Report 2018 is the inaugural global survey of cloud security challenges, threats, and insights from security practitioners and decisions makers. This report compiles the findings from organizations across the globe that center on one common theme: that the cloud has created a strategic imperative to keep pace at scale.
Due to the rapid increase of users, applications, data, and infrastructure, we have witnessed an expanded attack surface that cybercriminals can more easily exploit. This report highlights these risks and identifies the best practices organizations can take to reduce their exposure.
Respondents in this year’s survey shared a high degree of overall confidence in the cloud, which was evident in the data that showed a large percentage of sensitive information is now categorized as cloud-resident. There also was increased confidence that cloud services were just as secure as on premises, which is leading to more businesses than ever leaning forward with a cloud-first methodology.
Respondents shared that some of their top security challenges include an increasingly complex and varied threat landscape (phishing, malware, and exploits), followed by the challenges of consolidating, analyzing, and responding to threat-specific events. This also extends to how organizations respond to violations in cloud usage by employees.
In addition, the survey highlights that there is confusion about the role their CSP plays in the shared security responsibility model, leading to increased risk and exposure when organizations are not prepared to pick up where the CSP leaves off.
Organizations face many challenges in enabling a secure journey to the cloud. While this report highlights a wide swath of information, we continue to create additional opportunities to take a deeper look into the findings of this groundbreaking survey with the development of focused briefs, summary findings, topical webcasts and events, and an ongoing online conversation in our Oracle Cloud Security Blog (below).
