“Oracle Cloud ERP is not a tool for a specific area. It is the backbone of digital transformation for our company’s operation.”
With a strong presence in Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica, Grupo Almo got its start in the security industry, importing and installing residential alarms and other electronic security products. Over time, the group expanded into other areas such as logistics and the transportation of cash and valuables, which led to the creation of Cargo Expreso, the group's largest company and a leader in last-mile delivery services in Central America.
After steadily achieving double-digit growth in recent years, the company experienced a surge in business during the pandemic, as retail ecommerce operations were increasingly relying on logistics providers such as Cargo Expreso to meet consumer demand. However, Cargo Expreso lacked the ability to provide customers with advanced features such as real-time data for tracking and other services. The company also needed to adopt analytics capabilities to drive intelligence throughout the business. Therefore, Grupo Almo began a search for a technology partner to support its overall digital transformation efforts and help Cargo Expreso keep up with business growth.
“Oracle Cloud SCM is the best solution to help us drive value from our data and is what our business needed due to support our growth over the last couple of years.”—Mario Tejada, CEO, Grupo Almo
After a rigorous selection process, Grupo Almo chose to adopt a suite of Oracle Cloud Applications, including Oracle Fusion Cloud Supply Chain Management (SCM), Oracle Fusion Cloud Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Oracle Fusion Cloud Enterprise Performance Management (EPM), and Oracle Customer Experience (CX). The company valued the prospect of having advanced data capabilities, the flexibility of the products, and the benefits they provide by working together. The company also appreciated Oracle’s constant product innovation and regular update cycle.
Grupo Almo achieved business productivity and scalability by connecting customers with every step of the delivery process. Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP connects data from all areas of the company, providing the group with visibility over operations.
Today, with Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP, Grupo Almo can account for each of the customer deliveries made by Cargo Expreso’s drivers in a matter of seconds, rather than in days, as it was previously. Leveraging the capabilities in Oracle Fusion Cloud SCM has provided greater visibility into the state of Cargo Expreso’s fleet, optimizing workflows with automated maintenance tasks, which has helped to reduce unplanned vehicle downtime. With Oracle CX, customers can now create self-service accounts, quote shipments, and have near real-time visibility into the status of their packages.
Grupo Almo worked with KPMG as consultants to the transformation program, JBA Solutions as an Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP and Oracle Fusion Cloud SCM implementer, Conectsen as an IoT connected asset monitoring implementer, and XumTech as an Oracle Advertising and Customer Experience (CX) implementer.
Through Cargo Expreso, Grupo Almo has the exclusive representation of UPS in Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras. It also has the exclusive delivery of US Government passports and visas in Central America; the exclusive distribution of consumer products from one of the global leaders in consumer goods, from manufacturing plants to distribution centers; and the exclusive distribution of mobile phones from one of the largest communications companies in America.
