Pleasing customers and employees with helpful apps and websites is a worthy endeavor, but one that's becoming more challenging. When a site is slow or an app doesn’t work, they quickly look for a competing service.
“This is the most dynamic application development and deployment environment enterprises have ever faced,” said Prakash Ramamurthy, Oracle’s senior vice president for systems management, in his keynote at Oracle OpenWorld 2015. Enterprises are caught between two competing goals, he said. “One is to rapidly innovate and the other is to make sure that if there are problems they can quickly address them.”
With that context in mind, Oracle has announced a set of cloud services that provide customers with a better way to meet these rising expectations. The new cloud services “can help you continue to develop at a very agile pace, but at the same time give the best possible user experience to your customers,” said Ramamurthy.

Oracle Management Cloud is an umbrella term for a suite of services that delivers everything from proactive monitoring and rapid troubleshooting to interpreting log files, orchestrating applications, and doing long-term application analytics. “All these areas of IT operations management will be brought to you as services on the cloud,” said Ramamurthy.
Specifically, Ramamurthy announced three services:
Oracle Application Performance Monitoring (APM) Cloud Service provides development and operations teams with the information that they need to quickly find and fix issues with mobile and web applications. It gives them deep visibility into application performance from the end-user perspective, including application logs.
Oracle IT Analytics Cloud Service allows customers to monitor the performance, availability, and capacity of applications and IT investments, enabling executives, analysts, and administrators to make critical decisions about their IT operations based on comprehensive system and data analysis.
Oracle Log Analytics Cloud Service monitors, aggregates, indexes, and analyzes all log data from your on-premises and cloud applications and infrastructure—enabling IT staff to search, explore, and correlate this data to troubleshoot problems faster, derive operational insight, and make better decisions.

Adapted to Your IT Environment
These services are meant to provide value without forcing customers to update their application infrastructures. “Whatever you use to run your applications, whether it’s Java, J-Boss, or non-Java, such as .Net or Node.JS or PHP or Python, whatever your application deployment environment, these services are designed to adapt to that.” Ramamurthy noted that the services work equally well regardless of which databases, storage, and operating systems a customer uses. Customers can use the services in a data center or Oracle Cloud, as well as in a third-party cloud service.
Time to Value: Only Minutes
Ramamurthy said that a key design goal is to make the effect on application performance “absolutely next to nothing.” In order to accomplish this, Ramamurthy’s team wanted to deploy the minimal number of components on a customer’s infrastructure so that it wouldn’t take long to set up. “Within 15 minutes of deploying it, you will start seeing value out of it,” he said. Using Oracle Cloud as a platform made it possible for his team to deliver the tools in a way that had minimal impact on customers’ existing setup while providing a fast time to value, said Ramamurthy.
“Anyone who knows these kinds of services knows that [they require] collecting a ton of data from a lot of different places,” said Ramamurthy. Underpinning all Oracle Management Cloud services is a massive data platform that will allow customers to see into their operations in real time, including usage and performance data from customers’ browsers, tablets, smartphones, and application infrastructure, as well as data on the health of virtual machines, databases, and storage. Customers will also be able to upload all their logs to the cloud service, where “we can help you understand what they have to tell you,” said Ramamurthy.
“This data platform gives real-time data processing, alerts at the right time for things you can drill into and fix right away, and will even help you do long-term analytics.” All Oracle Management Cloud services are being built on this unifying platform, said Ramamurthy. “This is absolutely different than anything else on the market today.”
